PATRIMOINE - Lanterne des Morts
Description
This 13th-century funerary column once stood in the Beaumont cemetery, high above the town. It was moved to the current cemetery around 1930. Set on a mass of three circular steps, this octagonal hollow pile is pierced by eight windows and topped by an acute roof. It has an opening at 1.50 m from the base, which enabled the lantern to be operated.
It was through this opening that the chain, wound on a pulley, was pulled to raise or lower the lamp that burned during the night.
Listed as a historical monument in 1886. It was restored by students at Felletin's Lycée des Métiers du Bâtiment in 1986.
