Eglise de Saint Genest sur Roselle

Eglise de Saint Genest sur Roselle
Eglise de Saint Genest sur Roselle

Description

Saint-Genest is one of 18 fortified churches in the Limousin region. Built in the 12th century in the Limousin Romanesque style, it is our principal architectural and religious heritage. Its square tower is a veritable fortified keep. Loopholes and gunports can still be seen to the west and north. Inside, the semi-circular vault houses a wooden altar whose table rests on an imposing root of hornbeam, inaugurated in 2001 at the same time as the bell tower?s new roof. The stoup in the church entrance is made of chestnut burl, and there is also a magnificent 18th-century polychrome wooden pulpit. These modest treasures are complemented by statues of the Virgin Mary, carved in 16th-century wood, and two of the Evangelists. The bells were cast and installed in 1879. Various listed religious furnishings.
