Châteauponsac, Perle de la Gartempe

Châteauponsac, aptly nicknamed the Pearl of the Gartempe, is home to many treasures forged over the centuries.

Strolling through the narrow streets of this fortified town, built on a rocky spur between the Gartempe and Semme rivers, history and old stone enthusiasts will discover medieval monuments (Faubourg du Moustiers with its 15th and 16th century houses, Benedictine priory...) and an 18th century town house.

There are two panoramic views of the town and the steep Gartempe valley. One of these panoramas was chosen to illustrate the credits of the France 3 TV series "Un village français".

A must-see when visiting Châteauponsac is the Musée René Baubérot, one of France's most interesting ethnographic museums.
