One of the largest and oldest Romanesque churches in the Limousin, it was the center of a vast complex (cloister, bishop?s house) which has now disappeared. Built in granite in 4 successive phases, from the 11th to the 13th century, the church's layout has always been respected, making it a homogeneous structure that bears the mark of the various construction periods, from the Romanesque to the emerging Gothic. Not to be missed: the monumental tomb housing the sarcophagus of Saint Junien. This magnificent 12th-century tomb, richly sculpted in La Rochefoucauld limestone, is shaped like a giant reliquary, with 3 of its sides covered in sculptures reminiscent of the fresco in the nave.
