It dates back to the 13th century and takes its name from the Grandmontain monks (abbey some 20 km away). In ancient times, it was located on one of the major routes between Limoges and Argenton-sur-Creuse. Its humpback-shaped deck rests on 3 pointed barrel arches and 2 piers. The bridge is built of horizontal courses of granite rubble, with a forecourt at the top. The pier bases form a narrow cornice at the start of the arches. Each bank is equipped with an oblique abutment to direct the flow of water during floods. The parapet is recent (1904) and the central arch was rebuilt after plastic-coating in 1944.
