This church was rebuilt during the 12th Century, around a Romanesque choir. But some written sources evoke the existence of a former church since 894. In the old days, it was dedicated to Saint-Martial, bishop. Since the 9th Century, it was named Sainte-Fortunade to pay tribute of a martyre, Fortunata, whose relics rest in the village.
