Église de la Décollation-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste
Description
Built between the 11th and 15th centuries, the church features both Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. Constructed mainly of Limousin granite, its use was favored for its solidity, a criterion required for fortified constructions at the time. Since 1926, part of the church, namely the apse and choir (Romanesque part), has been listed as a Monument Historique. Facing the château, it bears the remains of medieval fortifications, notably the octagonal bell tower and the bretèche* on the west façade. Due to the Franco-English conflicts, the population needed a place of physical and spiritual refuge.
Inside is the reliquary bust of the 15th bishop of Limoges. This is Saint-Ferréol.
