Home of the Pérusse family, great servants of the "royal administration" in the 14th and 17th centuries, the château des Cars has a unique profile. Indeed, the archaeological discoveries show the magnificence of the site during the Renaissance while the ruins show the adjustment of the architecture to the use of fire weapons during the religious wars. Despite the destruction caused by the Revolution, a collection of ruins consisting mainly of two towers, pavilions and magnificent stables decorated with murals is still accessible today. An exhibition combining maps, models, archaeological furniture and a stone collection gives an insight into the site at the peak of its former glory. Finally, a digital reconstruction of the castle and its surroundings allows visitors to take a virtual tour of the site as it might have been at the beginning of the 17th century.
