Situated on a plateau, Saint-Hilaire-Bonneval, 5 kilometers from Pierre-Buffière (exit 39 on the A20 freeway), is the very epitome of a rural commune.
The beauty of its landscapes inspired Arthur Young to travel to France in 1792.
The name Saint-Hilaire-Bonneval comes from Hilarius, bishop of Poitiers, and Bona Vallis, the Latin word for "good valley".
The 17th-18th-century church, with its bell tower and wall, is well worth a visit. 13th-century Limousin portal. 17th-century oculus. The church contains statues from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. To the right of the portal is a lapidary inscription.
