Eglise Sainte Valérie - Malval

Eglise Sainte Valérie - Malval

Eglise Sainte Valérie - Malval

Description

The church dates back to the 12th century, and its walls include a number of re-employments of earlier buildings. It is described in Louis Lacrocq?s "Les églises de France".
The church was never completed: the nave is missing, as is the south transept (destroyed in the 19th century). If construction had been completed, this church would undoubtedly be one of the most imposing in the area.
Dedicated to Saint Valerie, the church was listed as a Monument Historique in 1912. It contains the following listed furnishings:
- A 12th-century shrine (currently on display at the Musée de Guéret)
- 4 statues: two 18th-century apostles, the 18th-century Virgin Mary and 19th-century St. Philomena.
