As early as the 1880s, the catholic community of Verrerie-Sophie, with the support of the priests Hackspiel and then Riff, were looking to replace the chapel of Saint Roch (now demolished), which had become too small to accommodate the local congregation, with the construction of a new place of worship. The parish priest Kollenbrenner launched the project and the “Kirchbauverein zu Neue-Glashütte” was founded on his initiative. Its primary purpose was to collect the funds required for building the new church. On 25th January 1937, the parish priest Halter broke the ground. Finally, on 16th October 1938, Bishop Heintz led the ceremony to bless the new church.
