Brigueil-le-Chantre is located on the border of Poitou, Limousin and Berry. The church of Saint-Hilaire was built in the 12th century on a promontory overlooking the valley of the Asse. It originally depended on the diocese of Limoges and was given in 1185 to the collegiate church of Le Dorat. The cantor of this collegiate church, one of the most important persons of the college of canons, was the beneficiary of this parish. This influence gave the current name to the commune. Built in the 12th century, the Romanesque church has been reworked over the centuries. Romanesque and Gothic mural paintings, of very beautiful workmanship, were recently discovered.
It was registered as a Historic Monument in 1937.
A heritage desk installed at the entrance will give you information on this monument.
