The whole of the crypt of Saint Catherine, built at the end of the 11th century, had a painted decoration. In the eastern part of the nave, a lamb with the strange silhouette of a horse and the head of an old man from the Apocalypse remain. The decoration of the apse, in a vast mandorla, presents a Virgin and Child surrounded by six saints. The Child Jesus places a crown on the head of St. Catherine, patron saint of the crypt. Below, two scenes from the life of the saint are represented. This ensemble, with its rich and varied range of colors, belongs to the style of the transition between the Romanesque and the Gothic.
