The term Neuvice means new district. Although according to its name it was recently created, in reality the street is one of the oldest thoroughfares in the city. Seriously damaged by the bombardment of 1691, many buildings in this street, often decorated by impressive signs, were built following this tragic event. Such was also the case for the church of Sainte-Catherine, whose entrance opens out onto Rue Neuvice and which is one of the rare churches still surrounded by the city’s urban fabric.
