On their construction in 1878, this stairway aimed to enable rapid transit to the new Rue du Palais and Place Albert 1er, which opened out onto the charming districts in the south of the town. The men behind this construction were Messrs. Cornet and Grandjean. A false grotto occupies the centre of the stairway whilst at the top, a statue of a woman representing peace offers the town an olive branch. Take advantage of climbing this stairway to admire the view of the centre and heights of Verviers.
