BOIS D'AILLY - TRANCHEE DE LA SOIF
Description
The Ailly wood was the scene of violent fighting in April-May 1915. The "Tranchée de la Soif" bears witness to the suffering endured by the men of Commander d'André who were forced to surrender to the Germans on May 22, 1915, after having held out for 3 days when they were isolated, bombed, deprived of food and water.
Many regimental monuments and remains of trenches line the forest path between the woods of Ailly and Marbotte.
This site is not an ordinary place, it is a battlefield, it deserves your respect.
