For more than a century and a half, services at this chapel were given by the vicar of Petit-Rechain. Dedicated to Holy Cross and Saint Eloi, this chapel is said to have been built in 1662. In the 19th century, as the hamlet developed, the chapel was elevated to the rank of presbytery and Father Nyssen became the first parish priest in 1838. At this time, the races of "Saint Eloi" (patron saint of horse-riders) were much appreciated. However, it was on Saint John's day, a Sunday, that these festivities were organised, on the day of the summer solstice. Indeed, the remembrance of the transfer of the relics takes place the day after the commemoration of Saint John the Baptist, and this is why the worship of Saint Eloi is linked to that of Saint John.
