At the far end of the castle's outbuildings, at the corner of the large brick tower, several steps of an old stairway lead up to the former ramparts. In the 11th century, walls completely surrounded the small town in order to shelter all the inhabitants from the danger of invaders. A 5 to 6 metre wide rampart walk allowed the sentinels to observe the surroundings. Mortars and howitzers installed along the ramparts could easily reach all parts of the valley.Firstly, we pass in front of the stele marking the "Declaration of Human Rights Route". In 1989, the non-profit making association "Congrès de Polleur" created this route made up of 17 steles, each of which represents an article from the declaration of 1789. It should be noted that the one in Limbourg is not numbered, because it is outside the limits of the marquisate of Franchimont.
