This entrance gate to the town, the only means via the south, is named the Porte d’Ardenne. This side of the stronghold was always vulnerable and often invaded. All that remains of the former defensive walls are vast gashes that were blocked up by grates. The manor located at the top of the main square was in fact, despite its majestic façade with its many details, recently built. Erected by Mister Jean Poswick in 1910, its right angles stand out. Still a private home, it is indisputably one of the gems of the town.On the other side of the Porte d’Ardenne, the prisons were located near to the walls from 1753. In the Middle Ages, they were situated in the castle. Around 1685, two dark and dank cellars were used as prisons: one beneath the town hall and the other at the lower gate.
