After separation from the parish of Baelen at the start of the 18th century, the parishioners of Membach obtained the authorisation to build their own church, which was consecrated in 1722. After several phases of architectural re-development during the 18th century, a tower was finally built in 1884 based on the plans of Liège architect Émile Demany. The lawn located to the south of the Saint Jean Baptiste Church is dotted with many ancient crosses. Dating from the 18th century, thanks to the inscriptions they bear, they offer the curious visitor a selection of Membach family names to gaze through.
