La Fontaine Hodiamont à Baelen

Born in Aachen in 1925, many years ago the painter and sculptor Peter Hodiamont purchased a former farmhouse in Mazarinen, a hamlet in the municipality of Baelen. Following several transformations of the various buildings, he set up an art centre intended for the display of his personal works but also to host exhibitions from artists from a variety of horizons, enhanced during the grand openings by musical accompaniments. The soul of this artist is still present in his workshop where, since his death in 2004, practically nothing has changed. Many oil paintings, chalk sketches, water colours and other works using different techniques as well as his stained glass productions can still be seen here. The workshops for his glass painting, mosaic and wood sculpture works, as well as his enamel oven are open to visitors. The sculpture garden, decorated with works produced by the artist, was set up in his memory. To mark the 25th anniversary of the LAC (Leisure, Art and Culture) in Baelen, Peter Hodiamont created a fountain with four basins inaugurated in 1997 and located in the municipal park.
