The Wool and Fashion Tourist Centre conducts its activities in a building that was occupied by the factories and homes of the major families in the wool-making industryin Verviers: the De Thier, Grand’Ry, Poswick and Bettonville. The last company, run by the Bettonville family, closed its doors in 1970. The building was purchased by the town to set up the Wool and Fashion Tourist Centre. However, it was not before 1993 that the renovation work on the building began and in 1999 the museum opened its doors to the general public! The machines and objects (from the Verviers Museum's collections) on display in the first part of the exhibition named "Du Fil à la Mode" (from thread to fashion) allow visitors to discover the various steps involved in the wool cloth manufacturing process.Midway through the exhibition, "Fil de Laine" (a yarn about wool) makes way for its cousin "Fil du Temps" (as wool weaves its way through time), which presents a series of images: panels from comics published by Editions Glénat, majestically enlarged and printed on fabric. They punctuate the history of mankind's clothing. It also offers commentary on the costumes from the major eras that have marked the history of the western world.
