Reactivated in June 2006, this fountain is an integral part of the Stairway of Peace. This stairway is another example of the major urban structures of the 19th century. Originally, its aim was to allow swift transit to the new Rue du Palais and the charming districts in the south of the town. At the top stands a statue of a woman representing peace. The fountain stands in the semi-domed false grotto that occupies the central part of the stairway. The foremost jet of water joins a series of vertical jets of water place at the top of the cavity.
