On 14 June, the ship "la Combattante" embarked General de Gaulle for his first return to France from England to Courseulles-sur-Mer
This ship then sank in the North Sea in 1945
Five steles line the avenue that bears his name to pay tribute to the missing sailors and General de Gaulle.
