Description

A first, a Romanesque chapel was built in the 13th century. But the attraction of the new town of the parish of Saint Cyr en Retz was such that it became necessary to build a new church, on the site of the new port of "Bourg Neuf", to accommodate all the faithful.

In 1458, founded by Lord René de Rais (brother of the famous Gilles), a high monument flanked by a massive bell tower was actively built. This steeple, so massive and too hastily built, threatened the entire building on several occasions. So to avoid the collapse of the building, it was demolished in 1878.

The present Church has itself been altered several times; its location, on the foundations of the old parish cemetery, its windwardness and its type of architecture make it a brittle monument over time.

Inside, there are 12 granite columns with capitals adorned with different foliage, an oak wood organ dating from 1925 very well preserved, several wooden statues dating from the 15th to the 18th century, a processional banner from 1791.
