PIGEONNIERS DE HAUTE-MARNE

PIGEONNIERS DE HAUTE-MARNE

Description

Organised by the association “Maisons Paysannes de France”, the inventory of pigeon and dove houses in Haute-Marne took stock
of 200 structures, fifty of which from the ancient seigneurial law, abolished on 4 August 1789.

The most common installation is close to a farm, but there are around twenty dove houses within a blacksmith’s shop. Attic pigeon
houses – of which there are the most – were less expensive to build than the more spectacular round or square towers. They were all
constructed after the abolition of 1 the “dove house law”.
