The château stands on an estate comprising the tenant farms of Petit Bois Joly, Feuilletrie, Bonnelais, Bois des Vallées and Chêne Fougeray. The result of the dismemberment of the Bois-Joly seigneury, the collection of these tenant farms constituted new land, hence the name of the château.
The Château de Terre Neuve was probably built by Joseph Nicolas BACHELIER, chevalier de Bercy, and his wife Marie-Rose BOUX DE BOUGON between 1768 and 1770. Its architectural features are listed as being in the Louis XV style. It was not occupied until 1771.
It was then owned by the TRUBERT family, and later by the TEILHARD family. The daughter of the latter, Alice, widow of Mr VALEIX, then donated it to the Crusade for the Blind.
