"At the end of the 15th century, a craft industry was mentioned at the Sept-Faux priory, and there were around fifty brickmakers in the parish of Arthon in 1771. Production of bricks, tiles and squares in 1803 was estimated at 5,400,000.
The number of brickmakers doubled in 1811. There were around a hundred of them making various terracotta products. This activity continued until the end of the 19th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1909, the first industrial brickworks was set up by the Boizou family. Work was mechanised and firing was by steam. The factory remained in operation until the late 1960s. The last owner was Mr Moreau, who abandoned brick for concrete. A new adventure began in the village of La Feuillardais. First, a concrete pipe factory. In 1975, Stradal was created, with its famous coloured cobblestones, a modern-day "brick".
The traditional brickworks gradually declined until the Second World War.
