20 km north of Niort, on the border between the Niort plain and the Gâtine, stands a witness mound where the village of Chamdeniers is built. This mound is bounded to the south by the Egray valley and to the north-west by another valley crossed by a stream called the Gâchet.
It is at the place called "La Chauvinière" that this stream is interrupted by the loss of its waters in the cracks of the limestone mound to reappear on the other side, some 2 km, at the south-southeast foot of the Champdeniers hillside, at the "Grande Fontaine". From there, it continues its course, in the Egray valley. The penetration of the network can, until now, only take place from this resurgence.
Access thanks to an agreement between the commune of Champdeniers, owner of the access to the river, by requesting an access authorization from the Departmental Committee of Speleology 79.
