Hendaye offers us a superb, entirely exclusive route accessible to all. It leaves from the port of Caneta and, thanks to a pontoon on stilts, reaches the Joncaux district by following the right bank of the Bidassoa. This stroll along the Spanish border is well away from the hustle and bustle of Hendaye and Irun, and offers beautiful views of Chingoudy Bay and Fontarrabie. In the distance, the first peaks of the Pyrenees can be seen.

In the heart of a very touristic coast, the Domaine d'Abbadia remains a magnificent space of protected nature that you can discover, but only on foot and without your dog. Built in 1884 in Moorish style, it is the symbol of the development of seaside tourism in Hendaye. From 1889 to 1980 it housed the town's casino and is today the starting point of the famous G.R. 10 which crosses the Pyrenees from east to west.

This protected site of outstanding natural beauty, spreading over 65 hectares is the property of the Coastal Conservation Commission, who endeavours to combine public access to the site with the protection of this ecologically rich countryside environment. Through the varied landscapes (high jagged cliffs, heather and gorse heaths, meadows, copses, orchards stocked with ancient and local varieties), the Domaine d’Abbadia offers to those ready to open their eyes the possibility to going back over 80 million years, to the time when the sea was to be found where the Pyrenean mountain chain now stands. Any removal of samples is strictly forbidden from this biological and geological conservation area.

The Bidasoa which separates France and Spain flows into the Atlantic at Hendaye in a vast bay. Its location at the end of the Pyrenees and against the ocean makes it the obligatory passage for many migratory birds. The most assiduous will prospect the beach where the snow bunting can be observed in winter The rest of the bay is very interesting in the same season to look for loons, mergansers, common eider ducks and other seabirds. The island should be observed around high tide to look for shorebirds in spring and fall. On the Spanish side, two wetlands are to be done during the migrations: the ecological park of Plaiaundi and the marshes of Jaizubia. The diversity of species observed there is exceptional: maroons, waders of all species are the main ones, and the numerous facilities (observatories, trails) ensure very good moments.

Integrated into the Rue des Lilas landscaped park, it can accommodate 25 motorhomes. Access is automatic via entry and exit gates, and payment by credit card. Any day started is due. Parking is limited to 72 hours. There is also a 2-space ?service area? for draining and recharging water and electricity. Sometimes the pay station no longer issues tickets: - either the site is full (despite the visible empty spaces, as some motorhomes drive around and come back in the evening). - or the paper has run out.
