Leaving the shores of the ocean and after skirting the bay of Txingudy, this itinerary takes you through the first humanized reliefs of the Basque mountains. After the Ibardin pass and its famous ventas, you will walk through the wild and fresh atmosphere of the Intzola ravine.

Hendaye offers us a superb, entirely exclusive route accessible to all. It leaves from the port of Caneta and, thanks to a pontoon on stilts, reaches the Joncaux district by following the right bank of the Bidassoa. This stroll along the Spanish border is well away from the hustle and bustle of Hendaye and Irun, and offers beautiful views of Chingoudy Bay and Fontarrabie. In the distance, the first peaks of the Pyrenees can be seen.

Ideal for families, pushchairs, small bicycles and wheelchairs. This walk in Hendaye runs along the right bank of the Bidasoa, which forms the border between France and Spain. Located north of Hendaye on the Basque corniche, a park designed by landscape architect Eugène Buhler that ends at the cliffs and the ocean, a residence conceived as a scientific laboratory: here is Abbadia, the Château-Observatoire, built between 1864 and 1884 for Antoine d'Abbadie, ethnologist, astronomer, great traveler and ardent defender of Basque culture. The master builder was Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, an architect whose work here is one of his rarest creations. The neo-Gothic Abbadia, le Château Observatoire, reflects the orientalist passion of its owner.

In Abbadia park, the Château-Observatoire, this 1-hour treasure hunt is aimed at children aged 7 to 13. The kit consists of a 12-page notebook, a patterned pencil and a surprise gift given to the explorer at the end of the game. The participant must observe the façades and follow the exterior scenography to answer certain riddles. They must also decode an alphabet and tackle a labyrinth. Certain answers will enable them to complete a mystery sentence. In addition to the answers, the booklet tells the story of the Château and Antoine d?Abbadie... A fun way to discover the site!

This protected site of outstanding natural beauty, spreading over 65 hectares is the property of the Coastal Conservation Commission, who endeavours to combine public access to the site with the protection of this ecologically rich countryside environment. Through the varied landscapes (high jagged cliffs, heather and gorse heaths, meadows, copses, orchards stocked with ancient and local varieties), the Domaine d’Abbadia offers to those ready to open their eyes the possibility to going back over 80 million years, to the time when the sea was to be found where the Pyrenean mountain chain now stands. Any removal of samples is strictly forbidden from this biological and geological conservation area.

This is not a pleonasm! Often depicted in images of the Basque Coast, these two emblematic pink limestone rocks are witnesses to the retreat of the coast.
