This beautiful hike goes through the rounded ridges and allows to climb to the top of Artzamendi of Artzamendi where the view is imposing. It then plunges sharply towards Bidarray and the valley of the Bastan. This steep path can be tricky but it conceals like a perfume of the Pyrenean mountain which is coming.

Choose dry and clear weather to enjoy the view from the Goropsil ridges, and progress safely on the slippery grass and stony paths. The temptation to stop for lunch in Ainhoa (horses at the tie-up) may lead to a late arrival in Sare.

The typical village of Itxassou is the starting point of many hiking routes. Atharri is a good compromise between walking and hiking. Mostly easy, this route will remind you for an hour that you still are in the mountains! The pleasures are varied. You can spend a moment strolling on the “beach” of the Pas de Roland, watch the ballet of vultures, and even sweat profusely on the only climb of the route. Welcome, you arrived in Basque Country.

A species that thrives in cool and humid areas, the beech tree finds all the conditions it needs to flourish on the northern slope. The few beautiful specimens present here are pollarded. This hill is an old domain nowedays classified sensitive natural space. From the top, we can see the south part of the town and also Itxassou, the neighbour town of Cambo. Some picnic installations exist on the site but a simple checked tablecloth on the grass could be enough...

This little chapel is an original place nestled on a street corner, on the path leading to the Colline de la bergerie. With its Labourdin-style exterior, it's hard to imagine the surprise hidden inside. As soon as you step inside, the magic begins. You'll marvel at the stained-glass windows behind the altar and the abstract glass tiles. But above all, it's the Basque artist Albert Proux, who created the frescoes, who is responsible for this surprising profusion of color. Although he had never done this type of iconographic work, the artist consulted the frescoes in Russian Orthodox churches and, using an episcope, dexterously transcribed them onto the chapel?s interior facades. These icons evoke scenes from biblical life: the Baptism of Christ, the Dormition, surrounded by apostles and angels.

La Colline de la Bergerie, a former estate now classified as a sensitive natural area of 17.5 hectares, is located on the heights of Cambo-les-Bains and is endowed with late-mown meadows and forests, which offer a 180° view of the Basque summits: l'Artzamendi, l'Ursuia, le Mondarrain or la Rhune. The park has some remarkable trees and the remains of the exterior layout suggest that this estate was once an exceptional residence (the Wendel family castle has now completely disappeared). The Elondare house, with its singular wooden architecture, which can be found on the site, informs and educates the public about biodiversity, the management of the site and the role of wild pollinators. This place of relaxation and picnic for the families is also a stroll of 2,5 km on a path shaded by a wood at the beginning of Cambo-les-Bains.
