Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) and Selle Français sport horses. We are committed to respect for animals, the environment and transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several exceptional meat-producing regions (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef, etc.) throughout the Japanese archipelago. It was at the end of the 19th century, after more than a hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen previously used for agricultural work. The breed was selected for the marbling of its meat, but also for its docility. Respect for animals and their environment is an integral part of Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef cuts in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of hardy breeds that is lost with selection to increase muscle mass. It explains the unrivalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Wagyu beef is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, notably Omega 3. These essential fatty acids are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for, avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development, reaching maturity at 3 years. Charolais, an excellent traditional meat! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected to produce quality meat. For direct sale, we reserve young cows aged 4-6 years who have had one to three calves: this is what gives the tastiest, most tender meat. They are fattened with the same high-quality feed as Wagyu cattle, and the fattening period (from 4 to 12 months) ensures that the meat is very marbled for the breed, and therefore very tasty. Breeding in the Ain region. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding, and combine the very best in terms of genetics, feed, habitat and rearing methods, with respect for the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' feed: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix) and cereals form the basis. The cows and their calves are raised freely in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate respect for the environment into our breeding approach: hedges are planted, manure is treated by methanization and the energy thus supplied is used to dry fodder in the barn. We optimize crop production by alternating grazing with cattle and horses (thus also reducing parasite pressure). Finally, in keeping with Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of our animals through respectful and attentive domestication.

By the 40th day after mobilisation the German High Command expected to have brought the French and British armies to a decisive battle and destroyed them. This conclusion to Schlieffen’s famous Plan relied on the Russians taking at least this length of time to mobilise via their poor railway system. The BEF played a small but significant part in the battle of the Marne even though Field Marshall French had seriously contemplated removing his men from the action to reform and rest. However, this major battle was largely won through the determination and courage of the French soldiers and their leaders. The French snatched a conclusive victory from what looked like an imminent defeat. The German High Command failed in its attempt to capture Paris and force the French government to capitulate. The ‘race to the sea’ now followed, in which the Allies and Central Powers atempted to outflank each other. The line of trenches was then settled from the North Sea to Switzerland. The Allies and the Central Powers now knew that the war would continue far longer than they had thought. The next few years would be spent in learning how to fight a new kind of war with new weapons in the air and on the ground. The price of this process would be paid in blood.

The church was formerly a priory-cure whose origin dates back to the 11th or 12th century. Before 1730 there was only one nave. In 1737 and during 2 years it was rebuilt on a larger scale while retaining the old bell tower. Called at one time the “New Church” its first stone was laid 25th April 1737. The construction was completed and it was officially received on 4th November 1739. It was in 1787 that the bell tower was demolished to build the gate and the tower as we see them today. The apse and the choir are from the twelfth century, the later nave is from the eighteenth century. The Bayel Crystal Museum discover the history of glass and crystal from antiquity to the present day. Designed as an Eco-Museum, the inhabitants of Bayel gave it their soul. Models made by the Cristallerie glassmakers reveal that the tools and techniques have remained identic to those of Diderot and Alambert’s Encyclopedia, with exceptional creations and ancient documents to discover the history of this amazing “City of Crystal”. An 8 minute video in the Crystal‘s workshop illustrates all stages of the manufacture; hand blowing, trimming, engraving, satin, gilding, enameling…. The Museum also has a library on the crystal and all that surrounds it (only available on site). In 2019 we celebrate the 25th anniversary of our museum, and to honour this occasion we invite you to our exhibition entitled: “Baylois life, as it was before…” Several themes are discussed, such as the social life, various associations … while keeping the manufacture as the central core of the life of the Baylois. This new ethonological part, dedicated to the Bayel inhabitants, is now completed by a documentary entitled “A Crystal Factory in Champagne” and directed by Michèle Paintault (producer; Ofrateme 1976 – Canopé Network). This film will show you the different workshops of the Bayel Cristallerie in 1975. Lovely memories in the period when the manufacture was in full swing. To safeguard our heritage, the Bayellois know-how, the Crystal Museum has set up glass blowing demonstrations, in addition to visiting the rooms and videos.
