Casteljaloux, the gateway to the Landes de Gascogne forest, is an ideal starting point for this walk, which begins and ends in the forest, attacking the more rugged slopes of the southern Marmandais region The views of the Landes, the Garonne valley and the hills of the tomato capital are then wide open. In addition to nature, you will see many listed churches and some remarkable castles along the way.

From the heart of the town to the white sandy shores of the lake, escape for a stroll along the Voie Verte SO Vélo, the banks of Lac de Clarens and the banks of the Avance.

Casteljaloux is known for its eventful past and for its thermal waters, attracting visitors and curists. Founded in the 9th century, the town was, until 1241, the seat of a commandery of the Knights of St John. The history of the town reached its peak between the 11th and 16th centuries, when it was the stronghold of the famous Albret family Casteljaloux has sulphurous and ferruginous waters of great renown. Abandoned for a long time, the town rediscovered its thermal vocation during the 20th century This tour will take you close to the thermal centre and you will be able to see the lake of Clarens, a very popular place in the region. During this walk you will also discover the town of Casteljaloux with its narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses and you will cross forests of sandy moors.

This itinerary will take you from the water city, over the agricultural hillsides before going into the Landes forest, planted mainly with pines and sheltering some pigeon houses.

This walk will make you discover the multiple facets of the Landes forest: old plots of land where oaks, cork oaks, hornbeams, chestnut trees, etc... grow and vast areas planted with maritime pines.

Commune without a village, nearly 2 km separate the church from the town hall of Poussignac. This small loop through the woods offers some panoramic views from the cereal clearings.

From the village of Veyries, seat of the parish church and the town hall, to the church of St-Gény, there are numerous viewpoints on the hillsides of Gascony and the Landes forest.

With its wide paths through a cereal-growing countryside, sometimes lined with tall trees, sometimes open to offer you a grandiose panorama of the Landes forest and in good weather on the Pyrenees, this circuit alternates landscapes of great diversity. Its particularity, the numerous churches in ruins: Labastide in the heart of a hamlet, Mataillac isolated in the middle of a field and Saint-Gény covered with ivy. In Veyries and Saint-Gemme however, two buildings in good condition remain, one with a bell-tower-wall, the other with a pointed bell-tower.

This short walk takes place around the holiday centre of La Taillade, in an area dedicated to the discovery of the fauna and flora of the Landes forest.
