Nicknamed “the little Nizza from Cantal", squeezed around its squat bell tower, the town of Maurs has retained the almost perfect circle shape given to it by its ramparts and which is now home to the welcoming Tour de Ville, built on the old moat. Take a stroll through its narrow streets with their southern flavour and discover its medieval architecture. Then head out into the surrounding area on the Cardalhac trail. You will appreciate the gentle landscape and the superb views over the Maurs Basin, the Mounts of Cantal, Lot and Aveyron. Hiking trail "La Croix del fût". The village is situated in a granite country, with meadows and crops alternating with wooded areas. In the hamlets of Belaubre and Enfour, you will discover the traditional habitat with its red-tiled houses, with outside staircases leading to the wooden balcony facing south, topped by the plancadou where corn and chestnuts used to dry. On arrival, you will walk along the pond where the legend of the village bells still hangs in the air, on which, one mysterious day, the waters closed in. Hiking trail "The Causses trail" A small village perched on the remains of the old fortress, Montmurat is strongly influenced by the southern climate, which has given it an extraordinary flora: lily of the valley, boxwood, wild asparagus, vines and orchids. Take the time to stroll through the narrow streets of the village, the Mediterranean influenced architecture is remarkable. From the plateau (after the starting point, access on the D345), this path will also allow you to discover an exceptional 360° panorama of the Lot, Aveyron and Cantal. Hiking trail "Hiking in the hills". Located at the southernmost part of Cantal, the village of Saint-Constant, crossed by the River Célé, enjoys a southern location with a mild and temperate climate. On this route you can admire La Garenne Hill to the south-west, the two churches of the double village of Saint-Santin as well as the Maurs Basin. A wide range of viewpoints opens up here, from the perched castle of Loubressac to the site of Carennac, on the other bank of the Dordogne. From Bilhac, the church with its historiated modillions and the castle with its medieval origins introduce an itinerary that crosses hamlets with Quercy architecture, such as Vigier or Masdelpouch. The mill of La Force also contributes to the charm of the route.

Guided tour of the Sanctuary: you enter each enclosure, unique to the Cantal region, and you'll be able to get up close and personal the animals, discovering them and petting them if they wish because this is their home and we owe them our respect. You can bring pieces of carrot, but above all, no bread. The sanctuary is home to goats, pigs and ponies, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs and peacocks.

As in many Châtaigneraie villages, Le Trioulou has a pretty church and a picturesque castle with turrets. But there's something, or rather someone, you won't find anywhere else: Mélia the bee!

Maurs is the southern version of Auvergne. It has a lilting accent and the town's appearance is more akin to its neighbours in Lot or Aveyron than to the other Cantal towns. It's not called the Little Nice of Cantal for nothing... The town is squeezed around the Abbey of St. Caesarius, a 14th century gothic vessel, and has retained the almost perfect circular shape of its ramparts. The abbey church contains the reliquary bust of Caesarius, a masterpiece of 12th century goldsmith's art, as well as a collection of beautiful wooden statues and sculpted stalls, unique in Auvergne. In a protected environment, this charming and characterful place, classified as a sensitive natural area, lends itself to relaxation. The Moulin du Fau estate consists of approximately 7 hectares of land located on the banks of the Rance, about 1 km from the centre of Maurs. This site includes an old grain mill and a barn, a complex network of feeder and diversion canals, a fish pond and meadows. It's very easy to walk around the pond (about 1 km).

Ruins of the estate of Naucaze built from the 12th to the 17th century. The castle is currently being restored. It still has a 12th century tower which is the oldest architectural element. Looted and burnt down in 1792, and visible from road D133.

We're not talking about "galloping" demography yet, but it's clear that Parlan attracts many new inhabitants. Visitors, for their part, would be wrong to gallop along the village's 23 km of trails, so attractive is the surrounding countryside.

About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.

The heart of the Châtaigneraie beats to the rhythm of the River Rance. It serves as a backdrop for the many cyclists who take the cycle route between Maurs and Marcolès, which is part of the Grande Traversée du Volcan à Vélo (“Crossing the Volcano”) or GT2V. This route follows the winding course of the river and offers plenty of coolness in summer. Its history has been shaped by mills, railways and hydroelectricity.
