Signs briefly tell the life of the Landes forest. The one of the ditches evokes swamps, the road to Compostela, shepherds, sanitation... The cork oaks are an excuse to learn about their economic role in Vieux-Boucau. Further on, the walker learns about the gluttony of the maritime pine swallowing its 45 tons per day for a wooded hectare. The fourth stop, in a clearing, reminds us of the damage caused by Klaus. The circuit climbs up to the pigeon house and the explanations of this traditional hunting. Walk in the footsteps of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela by taking the "Bayonnais" path

On this path in the forest, you will discover a "douys" water point (small hole) surrounded by large pines and oaks where the shepherds used to make their sheep drink, then a "palombière" on the "ground" before joining the path of the bayonnais.

Landes Atlantique Sud aligns 30 kms of fine sand beaches and by the fact, not much less kilometers of dunes. Mobile by essence, the coastal dunes are naturally shaped by the sand, the wind and the plants. The dune cordon is today largely protected, in particular by the Office National des Forêts. In fact, the management of the ONF, strong of preserving biodiversity, uses a management method using natural processes (wind, plant dynamics ...) to trap the sand. The dune is a fragile natural environment and it is our last defense against coastal erosion and marine submersion. So we pamper it, we admire it, we take care of it and above all we respect it.

St Clément’s church, dating from 1632, is remarkable for its vaulted ceiling embellished with biblical frescoes. These works date from the 1950’s and were restored in 2005. They represent episodes in the story of salvation and the story of Jesus. One can see the 17th century crucifix which came from the Cordeliers chapel. The Chancel shows local saints: Bernadette, St Vincent of Paul and St. Clement, the patron of the church. The altar, centrepiece of the church, is in white marble and was taken from the former neo-gothic retable. As is the case for many ancient churches, Vieux Boucau also has its war memorial on which are inscribed the names of ‘Boucalais’ who fell in the last wars.

The « Joseph Laudouat » arena was built in 1964 by an architect from Mont de Marsan called Franck Bonnefous. It is a Spanish-style circular arena with a crowd capacity of 3000. It was restored and brought up to current health and safety standards in 1984-85. In the 1930’s arenas were much less permanent structures made from wooden barriers and cattle cages and all completely removable. They were no terraces and the audience simply stood behind the barriers. Joseph Ladouat, the mayor of the time, encouraged the construction of a permanent wooden structure, then in 1964 the current arena was inaugurated.

Circuit of 2 km each, duration 1 hour All along these discovery trails, walkers can discover, thanks to information panels, the fundamental economic and social role that the forest has played for centuries until today as well as the varied fauna that it shelters. All the benches, panels and picnic area on the path were made with the wood that fell after the Klaus storm. Have a nice walk...
