As this trail crosses the Strasbourg – Molsheim – St Dié and Strasbourg – Sélestat – Colmar railway lines, it can be done stage by stage and you can easily return to your starting point.

Roaming along the roads of the historical centre, this city tour will take you on a discovery of Pontarlier’s emblematic locations: architectural, historical and symbolic city buildings, the banks of the Doubs and a viewpoint over the city. From the Tourist Office (), descend rue de la Gare to rue de la République.Head to Place d’Arçon, on your left. From here, you can see the Saint-Pierre gate at the end of the road.From the square, take rue de la Halle near the theatre. At the end of the road, head to the old barracks via place des Bernardines and place Cretin, on your right. Go to the bridge across the Doubs by heading through place Jules Pagnier and rue de Morteau.From here, make a round trop (1.2 km) to the Armand Guy distillery via rue des Lavaux.On returning to rue de Morteau, enter the park on the edge of the Doubs and follow the embankments on a little adapted path; this will take you to the other side of the park. Join up with rue de la République by leaving the park through rue Julez Mathez, where you will find the Jeanne d’Arc high school.   On arriving at rue de la République, head left until you reach another bridge over the Doubs. From here, make a round trip to the Hospital to observe its facade and the two chapels that can be seen from the road.On returning to rue de la République, after crossing the bridge once more, head down rue Montrieux and take rue Gambetta on your right to reach place Saint-Bénigne and the church. From the square, head to the train station vie rue Tissot. From here, you can head directly to the Tourist Office via rue de la Gare. You can also make a round trip of under 2 km to the Chapelle de l’Espérance, with a stunning viewpoint over the whole city. It can be accessed by heading down rocade George Pompidou until you come to rue du Stand, then head under the railway and take rue de la Chapelle (yellow waymarking) directly to the viewpoint.

A real sporting challenge, this route is aimed at experienced cyclists. Why not do it over two days? Take a break to explore the cultural and heritage attractions of Delle, Porrentruy, Boncourt and Brebotte. Combining greenways (Eurovélo6, francovélosuisse, voie verte de la Largue in Alsace) and steep country roads, this loop is the most difficult. We like: the Maison de la Nature in Altenach, the stork park in Seppois and the Bison Park in Boncourt*.

This itinerary, which links the Atlantic to the Black Sea, runsalong the three longest European rivers, the Loire, the Rhine andthe Danube, from Nantes to Budapest. From Franche-Comté to Switzerland, EuroVelo 6 follows the Rhône-Rhine canal into Alsace, passing the impressive ladder of twelve locks of Valdieu-Lutran in its southern part. After arriving in Mulhouse, the route continues along the banks of the Rhône-Rhine Canal to Kembs. From there, via the towpath of the 403000002 into Germany and then into Switzerland to Basel.

Wend your way along the winding roads of Alsace interweaving through the network of villages that make up this trail along the watershed. At the heart of Sundgau, you will take the former towpaths of the Rhône-to-Rhine Canal with locks dotted along the way (away from the road and rail routes linking Bourgogne and Alsace).

A short two-hour stroll to discover a wild nature before or after a good meal at the Grand Langenberg farmhouse inn located 900 m above sea level.

From the Mont-d’Or and its cliffs, a panoramic view will give you the breath of fresh air you may have been lacking during the ascent through the Morond and the ridges. This view is followed by a beautiful descent through the alpine pastures and forests that will please fans of short trails. From the Métabief Tourist Office () take the tarmac road that heads up towards MOROND.Follow this road (red MTB waymarking no. 77) heading through the crossroads at La Cheneau, La Fontaine aux Oiseaux, Tournant des Canons, Monrond and Sous le Monrond until you reach Sous la Citerne. From here, you can reach the summit of the MOROND to make the most of your first beautiful viewpoint. Take the “chemin des crêtes” until you come to the Mont d’Or parking lot. The Mont d’Or summit can be accessed by foot from here within 10 minutes.From the parking lot, follow the road to the Pâturages de la Grangette (La Grangette pastures).Branch off to your right on a narrow grassy trail that heads down through the pastures and wooded meadows. At La Barthelette, continue on the trail to your left which opens onto a little road. Take the road to your left, then turn right and continue on until you reach the alpine pasture farm of la Bartelette. Turn left and follow a grassy trail through the pastures, gradually ascending into the forest, and exit onto LA BOISSAUDE (). Head past the old farm and descend to your right on an open trail to join up with a tarmac road, you will soon come to LES GRANGES RAGUIN. Turn right after the building and take the muddy and stony path that runs along a meadow and then descends into the forest. Take the tarmac road and follow it for 700 m. Turn right onto a small trail to reach Les Toises. Continue to your right and reach the road in Les Meix. Turn right again and head through a small wooded area to reach Les Chapusets. Head approximately 700 m down the road to your left, before turning right and coming to Les Crétets and La Roche.Follow the road to your right until you reach the heart of LES LONGEVILLES (). Just before the church, turn right, head past the town hall and take the white path to your left until you reach Les Perrières and head on to the METABIEF TOURIST OFFICE.

The Chalets of the Doller welcome hikers seeking authenticity and nature and are only accessible on foot, making them a privileged destination for hiking enthusiasts. We recommend that you wear suitable shoes to fully enjoy your experience. Open year-round and free of charge, these chalets are a true haven of peace. The Graber Breitenstein chalet is located above the Graber Inn. Inside, you will find a fireplace to warm up during your breaks; just remember to use it carefully and turn it off before leaving. Following a prefectural order, outdoor barbecues are prohibited. To enhance your adventure, detailed hiking maps and information on accommodations and dining are available at the Tourist Office of the Doller and Soultzbach Valley.Don't hesitate to go there to plan your visit and make the most of it. Hiking shoes are recommended.

DEPARTING FROM LAUSANNE, HEAD TO THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF GRUYÈRES, HOME TO THE FAMOUS SWISS CHEESE! Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Enjoy incredible views of the lake and the Alps. When you get off the train, get back on your bus and head to Lavaux and its terraced vineyards. If the weather allows, climb on board a steamboat and cross the lake to reach Chillon Castle. Make the most of a guided tour of this fortified castle, built in the 16th century and hidden by Lake Geneva!  After your visit, you will head back towards Montreux by bus. You will make a stop to enjoy some free time in the town. At the heart of the town, make the most of the unique and relaxing atmosphere in the centre of the Swiss Riviera. The little train offers you a 35 minutes tour. Thanks to the commentary on board, you will discover the main monuments and emblematic places of the city.

A programme of thematic exhibitions is presented every year : paintings, sculptures, photographs, etc. In just a few years, the Palais Lumière has become one of the main cultural and artistic centres of the lake Geneva basin. Inaugurated in August 1902, the institute of hydrotherapy is considered to be the best of its kind. Open from 15 May to 15 October, it administers 1,200 treatments a day: baths, showers, massages, and electrical and mechanical treatments. Architect Ernest Brunnarius designed an impressive building: 68 m long and 25 m high, topped with a 30-m dome on a square base. Along the partially tiled façade, the ramps lead to a monumental entrance framed by bell towers. Under the porch, two paintings by Jean Benderly depict water. Listed as a historical monument, the building was extensively renovated from 2004 to 2006. Renamed the "Palais Lumière", it now holds a multi-media library, exhibition rooms and a convention centre. - April 19, 2025 to January 4, 2026 Exhibition of a selection of more than three hundred works drawn from a private collection of nearly five thousand paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints, posters, books and illustrated magazines, by recognized artists or to be discovered. Armand Guy distillery, now known as Pierre Guy, was founded in 1890 and is classed as a Living Heritage Enterprise. Much like Maison Pernod, it is passed down through the family, with four generations having already been at the reins. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

During the early 20th century, the theatre was built as a reception hall above the Pontarlier market-hall. These market-halls are reminiscent of the large fairs that have been held in the city since the 13th century. During the 14th century, these fairs experienced a boom when the Col de Jougne (15 km south) became a commercial crossing point between the North Sea and the Mediterranean. Built in 1771 based on the design of the knight d’Arçon, to replace the entrance across the ramparts, the Saint-Pierre entrance is now one of the symbols of Pontarlier. Remodelled during the 12th century, it has kept its classical style and is listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. Adorned with lines reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe, the entrance appears like a crown atop the rue de la République and marks a symbolic transition from the more contemporary districts and the historic centre. These barracks, which were built with some of the money allocated by Louis XV to reconstruct Pontarlier after the fire in 1736, could house up to 200 men and just as many horses. The two L-shaped buildings were linked by a huge door, however, the municipality refused to close the square on the other side. This place was therefore split between a place of armament and a public place. In 1922, the door was removed, to allow for better circulation. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

The congregation of Les Annonciades Célestes de Pontarlier was established in 1609 by six young women from Pontarlier. The monastery’s baroque-style door, created by the sculptor Joseph Guyon, can still be admired. Its portal, which has been classed a historical monument, was completed in 1715 based on the plans set out by Nicolas Callier, an architect and entrepreneur from Besançon, and was later modified during the 19th century. At the heart of the historic centre is the vast expanse offered by the Place d’Arçon where the town hall and the Pontarlier museum are both located. The first was completed in 1838 and originally housed an indoor market on the ground floor. The museum is located in one of the city’s oldest buildings, a combination of three houses, the oldest of which dates back to the 15th century. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

In 1901, the Pernod factory - the largest absinthe distillery in the town - fell victim to a fire. With the alcohol reserves representing a risk of explosion, an employee decided to empty the reservoirs into the Doubs. Legend would have it that the merry inhabitants would drink the water straight from the river. However, these events led to a hydrological discovery: the first colouration in history. We discovered that the Loue was a resurgence of the Doubs, as it waters had taken on the same murky colour and aniseed smell.

A former coach house, to which it owes its name, the La Poste brewery received the 20th Century Heritage label for its Art-Deco style. It is also famous for having been the place where “Septième Juré” starring Bernard Blier and “Les Granges Brûlées” starring Simone Signoret and Alain Delon were both filmed. From 1743 to 1867, Druhen-Vandel house served as a courthouse - then referred to as an auditorium - and a prison. Here, Mirabeau was tried for “seduction, abduction and adultery” and was acquitted after pleading on his own behalf. The building itself was built based on Louis Girod’s design and is constructed around an internal courtyard adorned with a turret. This is a fine example of the architecture of its time. Having been rebuilt on several occasions, after the village was taken by Bernard of Saxe-Weimar and later after two fires, the Saint-Bénigne church is difficult to date; however, one document does prove that it existed during the 12th century. Accommodation located at the Ballon d'Alsace on the road towards Sewen between the Tourtet and Chaumière. The room can hold 99 people. Two dormitories, one of 12 and one of 7 are available. The Beaucourt ski club chalet is located directly on the Langenberg slopes. Overnight accommodation in dormitory on reservation. Chalet open during the ski season from mid-December to mid-March weekends and school holidays of the Besançon Academy.

This establishment offers several types of accommodation, rooms, dormitories or lodgings. Some of them are accessible to people with reduced mobility. Located on the road that leads to the Ballon d'Alsace. It is possible to eat at the hostel and on the terrace.

The mountain shelter is located at the foot of the ski slopes on the road leading to the Ballon d'Alsace. It is open all year by reservation. Sheets or sleeping bags must be brought obligatorily. The dining room can accommodate up to 80 people. New: Reservations are made online at chaletlangenberg.ffcam.fr/.

Chalet located at the top of the Ballon d'Alsace, summer/winter mountain resort, at the crossroads of 4 departments: The Vosges, Territoire de Belfort, Haut-Rhin, and Haute-Saône. At the foot of the ski slopes. It has 16 beds and can accommodate up to 19 persons. The ground floor consists of an entrance hall with a ski and shoe cabinet, a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, a dining room for 20 until 25 persons with a stove and access to a large terrace, and a bedroom with 4 beds accessible to people with reduced mobility with its bathroom and toilet. You will also have access to a beautiful and large south-facing terrace equipped with a barbecue, tables, benches and sun loungers. The bicycle room is located under this terrace. The first floor consists of 3 bedrooms with 4 beds. 1 bathroom and 1 toilet. There is an additional bathroom and toilet in the basement. Price: From €390 to €460 for the weekends. From €1000 to €1450 for the week.
