Founded in 1287 by Philippe le Bel for some, it would have been created by Jean de Grailly for others. It was built on a former priory and was very quickly erected as a châtellenie on which the parishes of Villefranche and Minzac depended.

In July 2013 the Lac de Gurson was re-opened as part of the network of departemental leisure and bathing sites. Free entry, secure and newly refurbished the Conseil Général's most recent investment offers something for all the family in a natural recreational area. A children's playground and picnic areas are available all year round. In july and August lifeguards are present at the lake as are various other holiday attractions such as pony rides, archery and mini water-ski-ing.

Durante la Revolución Francesa, el castillo fue mutilado, las torres arrasadas y los archivos quemados. Los edificios restantes datan del siglo XIV. Está situado en una colina elevada, en primera línea para la defensa del territorio cuando llegaban tropas de las regiones de Castillon o Entre-Deux-Mers.

Notre Dame de Tayac también está vinculada al arciprestazgo de Entre-Dordogne y al castellanía de Puynormand. Esta última fue vendida en parcelas por Enrique IV en 1602, pero Tayac sigue vinculada a los pueblos vecinos. Se crea entonces la baronía de Puynormand, que agrupa las parroquias de Puynormand, Francs, Saint-Sauveur, Gours, Saint-Cibard y Tayac.

The Château de Matecoulon dates from the 16th, 18th and 19th centuries and is a listed historic monument for its facades and roofs. The rest of the château, the outbuildings and the park are listed. Visit the 3-hectare park only. The romantic park features ornamental buildings - known as "fabriques" - set among a variety of trees, including an Osage orange tree. Crossing the château opens onto a staircase created in 1800, the special feature of which is that it is self-supporting.
