Charles de Gaulle was born at 9 rue Princesse in Lille, in the home of his maternal grandparents, on 22 November 1890. This house was the family reunion point throughout his childhood and youth. It was within these walls, in a family united by patriotic and religious values, that the character of the future President of the Fifth Republic was forged. In 2020, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle underwent major renovation work. The aim of the work was to reinforce the structure of the house, but it also enabled it to be completely renovated and refurnished. Rooms that had fallen into oblivion have been restored and are being shown to the public for the first time. Listed as a historic monument and awarded the Maison des Illustres label, the house has been restored to look very much as the young Charles knew it. It is the only example in Lille of what a middle-class home looked like in the Belle Époque. In addition to visits to the historical part of the site, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle also offers regular temporary exhibitions, lectures and educational workshops. In addition, there are two walking routes in 13 stages, marked by a nail in the ground bearing the general's effigy. The route can be started at any stage. There is no chronological order either. Maps of the route are available from the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle and the Lille Tourist Office, together with explanations, anecdotes and family memories of each stage. Length of circuits: 6.3 km and 4.4 km.

A historic monument labelled "Maison des illustres", the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle aims to enable the widest possible audience to discover the childhood and genesis of the man who was to become the most illustrious of the French. Entirely restored in 2020, the house recreates the atmosphere of an interior characteristic of the industrial bourgeoisie of Northern France at the end of the 19th century. Located in the heart of Old Lille, the museum is housed in the hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre, which did not close until 1939. The current buildings date from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. They consist of a paneled barrel-vaulted patients' ward, a chapel decorated with the coats of arms of the hospital's main benefactors, and the Augustinian sisters' community buildings arranged around two courtyards and a medicinal garden. Since 1962, they have been used as a showcase for paintings, tapestries, carved wood, furniture and earthenware from the region, evoking the interior of a 17th-century Flemish religious house.

Built in the 1950s to sort the city's mail, then converted into a cultural venue for Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture, the Tripostal has become a major space for contemporary creation. While not an art centre or museum, it is a place for art and life, located in the heart of the city, between Lille Flandres and Lille Europe stations. It has three floors, each measuring 2,000 m², giving it excellent scenographic flexibility. It's also a place for performance and celebration, with a children's area and catering facilities.

Parc Barbieux is recognised as one of the most beautiful urban parks in France. Born out of the abandonment of an underground canal project in the second half of the 19th century, Parc Barbieux is a 34-hectare English-style garden in a remarkable setting of greenery and natural diversity. With 60 different species of trees and a number of lakes and ponds, the park is a wonderful place for wildlife, leisure and relaxation, with a children's playground and a petanque area. Affectionately known as "Le Beau Jardin" by the people of Roubaix, this listed site has been awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label.

It features numerous areas for sports enthusiasts: The Bois de Boulogne with its loops and wellness trails, ideal for jogging, as well as muscle strengthening and stretching equipment are available to the general public. You'll also find accro-Lille, a tree-climbing course for young and old alike.

Designed from 1929 onwards and completed in 1932, the Villa Cavrois is a family home, commissioned by a Roubaix textile industrialist Paul Cavrois and his wife from the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, a figure of the modernist movement. Following a precise programme, this villa concentrates all the advanced technologies of the time and constitutes an aesthetic shock whose effects are still perceptible today. The interior of the Villa, entirely treated with luxurious materials such as marble, exotic wood, and polished aluminium, is fitted out with furniture designed by Mallet-Stevens, who also signed the landscape design of the park. The most modern techniques of the time were applied. When Madame Cavrois died in 1986, the furniture was dispersed and the Villa was sold in 1987. After a long period of abandonment and vandalism, the State became the owner of the Villa in 2001 and undertook a vast project of preservation and restoration, aiming to recover the original 1932 project. The programme implemented by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux since 2008, scheduled for completion in March 2015, aims to show the exceptional ambition of the architectural project intended by the Cavrois couple. A symbol of the freedom of the cities of the North, the building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lille's belfry is 104 metres high and offers a breathtaking view of the whole city. Designed by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens between 1929 and 1932, the Villa Cavrois is considered a masterpiece of modernist Art Deco architecture. Occupied by the family until 1987, it suffered extensive damage between 1988 and 2001, despite being listed as a "Monument Historique" in the meantime. Acquired by the French government in 2001, it was donated to the Centre des Monuments Nationaux for restoration. Today, the public can visit this magnificent residence and its park in its original splendour. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1990 thanks to the efforts of the general public, and acquired by the State in 2001, the gigantic restoration project launched in 2003 by the DRAC Nord Pas-de-Calais and then taken over in 2008 by the Centre National des Monuments Historiques was completed in June 2015.
