In the same walk, Villars offers you the passing of time: from its cave "with the blue horse" splendidly highlighted, to the moving appearance of the castle of Puyguilhem, passing by the mysterious Cistercian abbey of Boschaud, you will go through the paths between forests and hillsides, to the shaded resting places where your mounts will relax during your visits.

Leave for 6 days and 150 km of horseback riding and discover the heritage of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin. For this last stage from La Glaudie (Milhac de Nontron) head for St Pardoux la Rivère, where you can visit the museum of old postcards of the Périgord and discover the church of the village which exhibits its beautiful sundial made in 1854. Then head for Savignac de Nontron, its ponds, its wash houses and its small Romanesque church illustrating the Limousin style in the Dordogne; From there, you will leave for Ajat sur Bandiat, the end of your ride.

Nice 9,5 km loop starting from St Front la Rivière. Stroll in the middle of nature, admire the views over the Dronne Valley and discover the historical heritage of the area, in particular the Château du Saulnier and the Romanesque church of St Front; further on you will pass the ruins of the Château de la Renaudie and the Château du Pommier.

On your way you will be able to visit the Villars cave and admire its paleolithic paintings, in particular "the little blue horse", the emblem of the cave. After the cave and the village of lavergne, you will see the Castle of Puyguilhem. This historic monument of the first renaissance period is worthy of the most beautiful residences of the Loire Valley and deserves a small detour. Then you can go and discover the Cistercian abbey of Boschaud. Founded in the 12th century and partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the abbey combines the great Cistercian principles with a typical Périgord style. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the buildings are imbued with a very strong spirituality

Classified as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", the village of St Jean de Côle boasts an exceptional architectural heritage with its Romanesque-Byzantine church, 15th-century bridge, Château de la Marthonie, old houses and narrow streets with half-timbered houses?

It is the largest underground network in the Périgord. More than 13 km were explored to date. Rainwater percolation created a beautiful natural scenery. You will admire impressive flows of calcite deposits, delicate stalactites, transparent draperies and countless stalagmites. Prehistoric paintings were discovered. Made more than 19,000 years ago, they represent the authentic testimony of our ancestors’ art. Some of them, such as the rotunda of horses, are covered with a thin layer of calcite which gives them their particular bluish hue. You will admire as well the bison and sorcerer scene, one of the rare human representations in prehistoric art. You will enjoy outside a new discovery footpath about fauna, flora and climates from Prehistory until the Present.

Puyguilhem Château, built in the 16th century for Mondot de la Marthonie, displays it elegant, Renaissance style silhouette against the Villars woods, near Brantôme in the middle of Périgord Vert. You get the best view of its impressive shape from the perfectly trimmed boxwood massif in front of the Historic Monument listed building: The main building, with bay windows, is flanked by towers and turrets of various shapes. Inside, a wide staircase leads you to different furnished rooms, decorated with tapestries. Admire the exceptional fireplace showing the twelve works of Hercules, then return the gallery on the top floor of the château where you can see an oak frame in the shape of an overturned boat hull. Villars has other surprises for tourists, including one of the most beautiful painted caves in Périgord, and Boschaud abbey.

Near Brantôme "La Venise du Périgord", very beautiful family house in a small hamlet, entirely renovated by the owners who knew how to keep the charm of the old while combining the comfort of recent furniture. This gite has four bedrooms for eight people. Private salt water pool secured by a shutter, open from the beginning of May to the end of September. Another "Gîtes de France" rental for four people is also offered by the owners.

The church of Villars dedicated to St. Martial was originally a Romanesque style church. A little cupola under the bell tower rebuilt in the 19th century on a basis of 12th century blind arcades remains. A visible oculus suggests that the church had the specificity of having a double narthex. The bell of Villars, the biggest in the area, is known for the clearness of its tone. There used to be three bells before the French Revolution. In 1793, two of them were removed and cast for war needs. Nowadays, the church got its three bells back due to the recent restoration of the belfry. They can be heard in the morning and the evening for the Angelus.

With the "discovery trails" initiated by Randoland at the request of the tourist office, no more walks where the child drags his feet at a distance from the group. Thanks to the circuit sheets, it is he who assumes the role of guide-explorer. The cards are designed as a treasure hunt to discover a historical and natural heritage which are so many clues to solve riddles. For each route, three levels are proposed. Each child finds a sheet adapted to his or her age (4/6, 7/9, 9/12). A mascot, the Rando inspector, accompanies and guides the children on the walk to help them solve the riddles. The puzzle cards can be picked up at the tourist office (many rewards for the children). A map on the discovery routes will also be available for the adults. Duration: 1 h 45 / Distance: 3.2 km

The Cistercian Abbey of Boschaud bears its name from the topographical configuration of the site: Bosco Cavo which is Latin translates as “hollow wood” or “wooded dell”. Founded in the 12th century, partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the Abbey combines great Cistercian principles in a style typical of the Périgord region, the only nave of the church being covered by cupolas on pendentives. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the convent buildings are filled with spirituality.

The construction of the church of Quinsac dates from two different periods: the cupola, the sanctuary and the bell tower are very old (12th century). The 2 chapels, one dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the other to Saint Joseph, were built by the count of Aydie, living then in the castle of Vaugoubert (the arms of the family used to appear on the band which ran along the church walls). The church was restored in 1859 and has eight ribs decorated with stained-glass windows and three paintings: Jesus on the Cross, Nativity of Our Lord and Assumption.

"Au chant des fleurs" is all about plants lovingly cultivated in a small corner of the Périgord Vert. Solène, a farmer-herbalist, offers products that combine the benefits of plants with pleasure. You'll find bold blends of herbal teas, aromatic herbs, spices and precious oils. Meet Solène at the St Jean de Côle organic market on Wednesday mornings.

Need to rest with your family or your friends, the picnic area of Neuville allows a stop to eat little local products or to refresh yourself. The kids will be able to dip their feet in the trickle of water from the washhouse and make the most of nature and at the edge of the woods.
