A former pilgrimage route of 180 kilometers from the Périgord to Rocamadour, this magnificent route is now marked out, and allows us to cross the vineyards and hills of Bergerac in complete safety, before skirting the green Dordogne valley and its cliffs, to arrive in the valley of the Ouysse, which makes its bed in the arid causse of the Lot. For this 4th stage, starting from Beaumont, we reach Saint Avit Senieur and its monumental fortified abbey church, and a few kilometres further on, we cross the bastide town of Molières before finally reaching Cadouin, built around a prestigious Cistercian abbey.

Apart from its church, Beaumont also offers relatively well preserved ramparts. An hour's walk from Beaumont, we reach Saint-Avit-Sénieur. Here again we are surprised by the monumentality of the fortified abbey church.

A great day's ride through the Bastides region to visit the Bastides of Beaumont du Périgord and Molières, as well as the abbeys of Cadouin and Saint Avit Sénieur! The little "plus": a picnic lunch in the gardens of Cadouin Abbey, which allows horses and riders to eat in this relaxing setting. The bastides, from the Occitan bastida (construction) of the Périgord, correspond to a new type of town that was created between the 12th and 14th centuries. In contrast to the medieval habitat generally grouped around the church or the castle, the bastide was more like a Roman city, organized around a central administrative and commercial square.

The commune of Monsac must have been inhabited by the first men who trod the Périgord. The plateaus of the commune provided and still conceal many instruments of the time of the cut stone. Large axe workshops were set up there. Nails testify to the Gallic period and the stone tombs remind us of the Roman period.

Between the country of the Bastides and the Bergerac vineyards, the naturist vacation center Le Couderc is located in Naussannes, in the heart of the Purple Périgord. On the left bank of the Dordogne, 20km from Bergerac, the Rouzique paper mill is located west of Couze-et-Saint-Front. Thanks to the river's regular flow, the quality of its water and its location, this village has been the cradle of paper-making in the South-West since the 15th century. The presence of the La Rouzique paper mill is attested as early as 1530. Now the Écono-musée du papier chiffon, it is still in operation. In the company of the paper-maker and guides from the Au Fil du Temps association, immerse yourself in the world of rag paper. Your guide will tell you all about the history of paper, and explain why the paper mill developed here, between Couze and Dordogne. Visit the various buildings on the site, then discover how small pieces of fabric are transformed into sheets of paper. Every day in summer, make your own sheet and take it with you!

Sylvie invites you to discover her sheep breeding and to taste her lamb. She works on a 40ha farm property located in the commune of Monsac, near the Bastide de Beaumont du Périgord in the Périgord Pourpre. The traditional buildings of the farm have been restored for the reception in gîtes while the modern sheepfold (made of wood) has been designed for traditional breeding and to facilitate the visit.
