Gurat is a charming little town on the banks of the River Nizonne, where nature, water and people come together. At the gateway to the Dordogne, discover this undulating route full of light and colour, between forests and orchid-filled dry grasslands. First of all, in the village, you'll discover the church of Saint Roch, built around the 10th and 11th centuries and dedicated to "Notre Dame de l'Assomption" (Our Lady of the Assumption), then the Paul Déroulède square where his bust (Charente MP and poet) is enthroned, and the Château de Gurat, an architectural ensemble dating from the 15th century. Along the trail, you can discover vast natural horizons, as well as many elements of the region's small built and natural heritage, and maybe you'll be lucky enough to see wild orchids. Take the time to visit the monolithic church, known as the chapel of Saint-Georges, located just above the village centre in the Lizonne Valley. Carved into the rock face, it can be reached by walking along the stream from the wash-house and taking the short interpretation trail, which will tell you more about the building and the surrounding Natura 2000 environment. The underground church at Gurat has been listed as a historic monument since 1963. Further down, towards the Vendoire peat bogs (a reserve of rare flora and fauna) and on the banks of the Ronsenac canal, the village wash-house supplies water to the Moulin du Roc.

Vaux-Lavalette is a small village located on a ridge connecting the Lizonne valley to the main ridge. It is classified in the Fins Bois, in the Cognac appellation d'origine contrôlée area and is also part of the "AOP" Noix du Périgord. Along the path, you will discover vast natural horizons, as well as many elements of the built and natural heritage of the region. The walk will lead you to an orchid protection area (Natura 2000 site). Then, the route will bring you back to Vaux-Lavalette, perched near the path of the crests which separates the canton of Villebois from that of Montmoreau where you will cross the valleys and finally cross the font of the threshold and its wash-house before returning to your starting point. It is possible to combine this circuit with the n°16.

Situated in the Voultron valley, not far from the oppidum of Villebois-Lavalette, Blanzaguet is a highly distinctive site. The small village of Blanzaguet-Saint-Cybard is home to a number of grand Charentais-style residences surrounding its 12th-century church. In the Middle Ages, the history of the village was mainly that of its castle, a stronghold of the Poitevin family and later the Galard de Béarn family. The church was listed as a historic monument in 1920 and renovated in 2000. The stained glass windows, gilded metal chandeliers (created by the Garnier workshop) and paintings/acoustic panels are contemporary. A remarkable interior. Along the way, in the hamlet of La Chaussade, you'll see a wash-house, a liberty tree and a mill below. You will then head towards the Nizonne where you will see the Moulin du Menieux, an industrial vestige with an iron water wheel on its side. There is a fine view over the Nizonne valley. You will then come to Edon with its church, the town hall which occupies an old dwelling and a wash-house. Take the R36, between Angoumois and Périgord, and enjoy the views of the château de Villebois-Lavalette 6 and Saint-Cybard.

The Natural Site of the Peat bogs of Vendoire, an original and little-known wetland located at the bottom of the Lizonne valley, is a basic peat bog of international interest for its singular and diversified fauna and flora. The Maison des Tourbières invites you to discover both the natural history and the past linked to human activities of this basic peat bog with a multi-millennia past. The site offers many activities such as fishing, thematic workshops or guided tours by appointment. The rest of the year, follow the interpretation trails to explore the site. Open from July 4 to August 28, 2020, every day from 10am to 5pm. Closed on Tuesdays.

A striking place full of history, built in the image of the monolithic church of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne.

Known as the 'Chapelle Saint-Georges', this extraordinary church dating from the 11th or 12th century was dug out of the side of the hill on which the village is built. A path in the middle of nature along a stream guides you past this amazing church. It has a nave, chancel, and barrel-vaulted apse, plus an 'arcosolium', a kind of tomb in the form of an arched recess.

Planning to visit Villebois-Lavalette? Why not stop off for a picnic in the village of Vaux-Lavalette? Hidden away, opposite the town hall, there is a table where you can enjoy sandwiches, chips and ready-made meals. Families and friends will be happy to meet in a quiet, grassy area. Castle of the 17th century, registered in the inventory of Historic Monuments... Taking up the H-shaped plan, characteristic of the French style, the castle of Clauzuroux consists of a multi-storey dwelling stretching between two large pavilions with three levels. One can admire the tiled roofs, à la Mansart, decorated with dormer windows, an 18th century portal with a curved pediment above a low arch, an architectural well, terraces and gardens leading to a bridge over the Pude. The castle estate is made up of several buildings that bear witness to the castle's utilitarian and pleasure vocations: the outbuildings, the mill on the Pude forebay, which has retained its mechanism, a steward's house and a barn in its extension, and a circular dovecote with a conical roof. It is one of the finest examples of an 18th century Perigordian manor house.

Séverine and Holger have left the Lyon region to settle in the beautiful village of Coutures. Working only with fresh products with a menu of the day that changes every day, a more elaborate menu in the evening (in spring and summer) and a slate on Sunday lunch.
