Built around its imposing Augustinian abbey on the banks of the Dordogne, the village of St Cyprien, a green holiday resort, has hung a flower on its old stones. This walk retraces the history of St Cyprien from yesterday to today, from the 6th to the 21st century, and allows you to visit the upper part of the village, which bears the origins and history of the town;

Saint-Cyprien was born around an abbey of regular canons of Saint-Augustin which would have been built on the tomb of a hermit called Cyprian. The barbarian invasions forced the monks to surround themselves with ramparts of which the bell tower-dungeon remains a vestige. The village, located near the Dordogne, did not want to see the bridge that linked it to the other bank of the river disappear when it was closed in 1992. Indeed, this bridge has more than 120 years of good and loyal services to its credit at the place called Garrit, which means Oak in the language of Oc. It was witness of so many stories...

Put on your mask, become FABIO and discover nature. At the start of the hike, follow the FABIO the little bird signposts on the yellow posts. As soon as you see a post with 2 nesting boxes, look at its number and refer to the corresponding theme in your booklet. The game can begin. Follow the advice of your friend the green woodpecker.... Look, touch, find...and don't forget the clues if there are any. The answers to the questions are hidden in the next nesting box. Before you leave, you can take a picture and enjoy your totem tree. From Terrasson-Lavilledieu to Limeuil, where the Vézère joins the Dordogne, the river runs through one of the most beautiful regions of the Périgord. This fifth stage will take you from Eyzies to Le Bugue. Located at the confluence of the Beune and the Vézère, the village of Les Eyzies is sometimes called the "world capital of prehistory". You will discover a multitude of archaeological sites such as the Cro-Magnon shelter, the Font de Gaume cave or the Pataud shelter. Information sites are also present in the village: the Pôle International de Préhistoire and the Musée National de Préhistoire. Then go to Le Bugue via the hamlet of Peuch and the village of St Cirq.

This 12th century church, deserves a bit of attention. The portal was done again in the 18th century. A recent restoration of the building has very well highlighted the choir in half-moon with sculpted capitals. On both sides of the entrance, notice two beautiful stony clams decorated with scallops. The side chapels date from the 15th century. They are sworn to the Beaumont. Under the dome forming a transept, a circular altar made of an old sandstone millstone has just been added. The 18th century altarpiece was a gift from Monseigneur de Beaumont.

With its Romanesque church rebuilt in the 17th century, its cobbled streets and old houses, Meyrals is a village on the hillsides. It has kept all its authenticity and gives us the opportunity to evoke some of the episodes of the local history. Visit supervised by a guide-lecturer.

In 1814, not far from the church of Redon-Espic, a young shepherdess, Marie-Jeanne Grave, was tending her sheep. She was 14 years old when a lady appeared to him, all dressed in white, wearing shoes held up by blue ribbons and carrying a luminous cross around her neck. The virgin, who will appear to her a second time, asks her to return to the Christian life of her parents, sharecroppers of Mr. Chabannes, mayor of Bezenac, otherwise her father and mother will soon die. Dismissed by her parents and all those around her, she died on 24 November 1814. It was to the place of the apparitions that some of the faithful regularly went. The pilgrimage became an annual event in 1815, on September 8.

Old parish church, located in the cemetery. Formerly known as St. Clair's. Given in 1276 to Saint-Cyprien and became a priory. The choir is limited by two pointed arches with scrolls: the western one falls on piers with backsplashes, the eastern one on engaged columns with carved capitals. The cornice rests on eight modillions carved with animal masks. The apse is seven-sided on the outside, it is pierced by three bays. All around the church there is a cornice with naked modillions. Square bell tower above the choir.

The church in the forest. Nestling deep in the woods and close to a spring which today supplies Saint Cyprien, Castels and Bezenac. It appears to walkers as an abandoned vessel, discreet, bewitching in its green setting. Totally isolated, it is located on a curvilinear relief, hence perhaps its name Rotundo Spino, a rounded spur, unless it is a toponym evoking the broken brush, witness of a medieval clearing. An impression of serenity emanates from it. This building was restored in 2007. Friends visitors, respect this place.

Head of a former archpriesthood made of 10 parishes. Rectangular nave, not vaulted (the droproits are partially from the 12th century), followed by a semi-circular choir-apse, smooth, vaulted by a cul-de-four without cord of impost. The triumphal arch is in full coat hanger. In the 14th or 15th century, a bahut (with a defense chamber) was erected on the apse, which, although sitting on a semi-circle, is polygonal. The western façade is a bare rectangle, with a simple door under a pointed arch and an oculus. There is another ogival door to the south. The whole building is not made of regular material , but in rubble of sandstone.

The Romanesque choir of the church dates from either the 11th or 12th century. It might have replaced an even older place of worship dug into the rock. The nave and the cemetery were rebuilt in 1888 (construction of a bell tower with Tribune). The Altarpiece: listed in the inventory of Historical Buildings, this altarpiece comes from the abbey of Fongauffier which no longer exists. In the 17th century, this work of art was dedicated to Saint Benedict and his sister, Saint Scholastique.
