Long called the "golden tree" for the wealth it generated, maritime pine is a must-have in the land of François Mauriac, who so loved to write about them.

This stage passes through the Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Gascogne, with its immense pine forest planted by man, and the river Leyre, where you can take a refreshing break. This part of the route is a great opportunity for a swim or picnic: head for the Domaine Départemental Gérard Lagors. We'd like to share with you our favorite, because a bit of art while pedaling can't hurt: works of art in the heart of nature line the route through the Forêt d'art Contemporain. You'll find one in François Mauriac's former vacation chalet in Saint-Symphorien and another right on the edge of the piste in Salles.

Discover Noaillan with the Municipal Youth Council! On the initiative of the Municipal Youth Council, the heritage trail was inaugurated on 17 November 2018. You leave from the site of Antonion on the edge of Ciron, you go up the Ciron river to discover the castle of Noaillan, the church, the children's forest, the Dubernet estate, the wash-house. This 2 hour walk along the water will make you discover the heritage of Noaillan. On the route, you will discover QR-Codes that you can flash with your smartphone to access additional information. This route is accessible to everyone, even children.

For children aged 6 to 12, accompanied by their parents. "Sur les Pistes de Robin" (On Robin's Tracks) allows children to discover the historical heritage of the village of Uzeste with the help of a document containing amusing questions, riddles and charades. This route is temporarily closed. No one would suspect that under the transparent waters of the Hostens Lake was one of the largest deposits of lignite in the early 1930s. Come and recharge your batteries on this beautiful 15km walk, in the heart of a protected area. You will take many paths, in the middle of the dense forest of the Landes de Gascogne. This hike is practicable as well on foot as on bicycle! On your way, you will perhaps cross some horses, because it is also possible to make the turn of the lake of Bousquey with horseback!

A former collegiate church, now listed as a historical monument, which houses the tomb of Pope Clement V. David Boeno invites you to a walk in the park, punctuated by 7 tree trunks cut according to cutting angles obtained from the calculation of the elliptical trajectory of 7 comets. A bevelled mirror, like a precious and sparkling object, is embedded in the heart of each section. On each mirror is engraved the name of the comet and the date of its future passage through perihelion, the point in the orbit closest to the Sun that causes the comet to cloud and make its hair highly incandescent. This confrontation of the present moment and the echo of a future coming from a sidereal distance, the constraint of an earthly life and the inaccessible depths of time and space, composes a consciousness of the world where the infinite threads of prospective geometries intertwine.

This Gothic church dates from the end of the 16th century. The keystones of the vaults are decorated with characters including Saint Anthony Ermine and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

Contemporary works of art, scattered throughout the forest, giant and surprising pieces imagined by artists in residence in the area.

This 12th century church, rebuilt in the 16th century, contains wall paintings depicting the work of the seasons, a harvester, a grape-picker and the killing of the pig. The altar is decorated with an antependium, a painted canvas from the 18th century. The painting of the altarpiece representing Saint Clair is from the 19th century.

Saint-Léger-de-Balson is known for its pilgrimage in honour of Saint Clair, which took place every year in the Saint-Léger church. The church has a Romanesque chevet and a façade with a bell tower. A large porch has long served to welcome the crowds during the pilgrimage.

To the right of the church of Saint-Léger de Balson, a small path runs through the woods; below on your right is the Saint-Clair fountain, once an important place of pilgrimage, especially in the Middle Ages. Its waters were reputed to heal the eyes and although the pilgrimage is much less important today, many people still make the detour by this spring.

This Romanesque church was built in the 13th century and partially rebuilt in the 18th century. Murals from the 14th century depict scenes from the life of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and the martyrdom of Stephen.

This figure of the Trojan Horse is presented here as a playful and stimulating infiltration into the landscape, opening a back door to an imaginary world of multiple and unpredictable proposals. A pretext for very diverse meanings, the horse has the particularity of being associated with water. On this lake, Bruno Peinado charges it with his magical gifts, and gives it a pixelated form that evokes this method of camouflage based on optical illusion created by a multiplication of facets. The bright yellow colour reinforces this ability to designate a presence offered, without ever closing itself off, to a wide variety of interpretations and resources. It's up to each one to experience the mètis of the Greeks, which combines the intelligence of cunning and the right measure.

Located near Villandraut, in the middle of the forest of the Gironde moors, the lake of Castagnet, is a calm and peaceful natural space. It allows pleasant walks and especially to indulge in the pleasures of trout fishing. The lake is ideal to spend a day of idleness, cut off from the noise of the city. Trout fishing enthusiasts will find what they are looking for! Here, no permit is required to fish the trout offered by the crystal-clear lake. All the equipment, fishing rod, landing net, bait are at your disposal.

This rather complex edifice is composed of a primitive nucleus, chevet and central nave from the 11th century, enlarged in the 12th century by aisles and absidioles. In the 14th century the bell tower was built, then in the 16th century a new aisle was built on the north side. Thick pilasters support a gabled bell tower.

The Cercle de l'Union is the main venue for the Musicalarue festival in the summer and is open all year round.
