Outdoor adventures at LE PLEIN AIR NEUVICOIS

This route allows you to follow the greenway on the left bank of the Isle between Neuvic and Sourzac, or to follow the river on foot on the right bank from Douzillac. To start cycling, go to Neuvic S/ L'Isle, near the reproductions of wooden and clay houses typical of the Double, near the river.

A beautiful, fairly shady loop, combining wooded parts with a crossing of small villages, with views over the unspoilt countryside. The route is quite varied and hilly, on unpaved paths, except at the end. It also allows you to discover some remarkable heritage features.

The path starts from the river bank, continues quietly up the slopes, via peaceful hamlets, mainly along pleasant paths in the undergrowth. It then descends to the valley, offering a vast panorama and passing pretty fountains.

The walk begins quietly with the discovery of charming hamlets with a rich built heritage (Bernardoux, Mauriac) to continue in the forest and finally return to the starting point by the charming streets of the village. The village was inhabited 15,000 years before our era, as evidenced by objects from the Magadalene period discovered on various sites. However, it is the Gallo-Roman remains that give us the first precise information on the history of Douzillac and Mauriac, two names testify to this: Dulciliacum and Marius which became Douzillac and Mauriac.

The Isle is a river on which a lot of merchandise was transported between the Périgord and the Gironde. They were transported by flat-bottomed boats that were towed from the shore to their place of origin.

Route around the village of Saint Severin d'Estissac through small roads and forest tracks. The return to the village offers a panorama on the village and the surrounding landscape, on the edge of the Landais forest.

Saint Pierre and Saint Paul church, Romanesque dome with apse from the XIXth century. The old part of the church does not seem to go back beyond 1130 approximatively.
