The GR®41 Vallée du Cher runs alongside the Sologne and the Cher, one of the largest tributaries of the Loire. The 486 km route links Solignat to Tours, passing through the Marche and Combraille regions of Aquitaine: from Mérinchal, Chard, Les Mars, Auzances, Rougnat and Fontanières; then on to Creuse Confluence.

Through the green and hilly countryside of the Combraille, the Mérodie circuit invites you to discover the surroundings of Auzances, between Auvergne and Limousin.Leaving the Tourist Information Office, go through the Market Square and take the street that goes down to the right of the church. Go to the bottom of this street, to the Stop sign. Cross the Rue de l'Abattoir, cross the small gothic bridge over the La Noisette River and head towards the Chapelle Sainte Anne.Then take the road that goes up and past the cemetery. At 200 m, go into the Chemin de l'Echalou.At the end of this path, take the road on the left for 500 m to a crossroads.Turn right towards Le Monsenergue, go past the Grandes Farges farm, continue towards La Roline. Continue to Monsenergue.Go through the hamlet by continuing on the public road towards La Mérodie. Go through La Mérodie then take the trail that goes up towards other houses on the left to return to the entrance of the village.Take the path in the opposite direction to La Roline.Just after a farm, turn right onto the Chemin des Pantoufles. Continue on this grassy path and cross La Noisette at the Moulin Pointu.Cut the departmental road and take the sloping road opposite the Moulin Cagnol, continue in the Rue des Jardins and at the top, turn left into the Rue Pasteur to reach the starting point again.

Departure from Tourist Office, Place du Marché 1- Take the D988 towards Bellegarde en Marche, pass Marcillat la Faye 2- Turn left towards Secondat, cross the hamlet 3- At the 2nd crossroads, turn right 3 times, go through Létrade and La Croix Rouge to reach Les Mars 4- At the entrance to the village, turn left towards Les Chaizes 5- Continue straight on to return to the starting point

Start / Finish : Caserne des Pompiers, Auzances Signs : Chemins Douce Heure 1 - Go around the fire station via the esplanade and up the grassy path at the start. At the 1st fork, turn right. At the 2nd fork, turn right down the path. 2 - At chaussée de l'étang, follow the small road which passes under the farm. After the buildings, turn right down the dirt track. 3 - At the top of the climb, turn left onto the woodland path. 4 - At the houses, take the road on the left. Before the DDE buildings, turn left to go around the wildlife park. 5 - After the pond, turn right. Follow the road to the right.

As on route no. 5, join Luard via Mainsat. Once in the Bois de Châtain, turn left to join Douleix, Perret and Pix. This is a fairly long and steep route.

Departing from the Château des Portes, this route takes you through Mainsat to Luard. Return via Bois de Châtain and Arfeuille. Quite a challenging route, with greater distance and elevation gain.

The accommodation This authentic stone country house is fully renovated and equipped to welcome you. It comprises a large living room with fireplace, a spacious kitchen (I was a chef), 5 bedrooms, a bathroom and 2 separate toilets. A spacious house that can accommodate up to 10 people!

La Sellerie is located next to the former stables. The former tack room has been converted into a small studio with kitchenette. On the second floor is the sleeping area with a large double bed. From the sleeping area, a mezzanine gives a feeling of space and a view of the small living room on the first floor. The tack room can be reached by a few steps and a double door from the gîte d'accompagnement l'Ecurie, making this combination ideal for people traveling together but still seeking privacy. This studio has a terrace shared with the neighboring "Paulette" apartment, adjacent to the château entrance with comfortable furniture.

The gîte is located in one of the former stables of the Château du Tironet estate. The house is luxuriously furnished with natural materials and features concrete floors on the first floor and wooden floors upstairs. First floor: living room with dining area, adjoining open kitchen with all amenities. Second floor: three spacious bedrooms all equipped with good new beds with extra thick mattresses, wardrobe and safe. One of the bedrooms also has an extra armchair that can be folded out to become an extra bed. One of the bedrooms has separate single beds, which can be converted into twin beds on request. The gîte has a private terrace, comfortable furniture and a good barbecue. An old passageway gives access to the former tack room, which can be added to make an extra bedroom.

The 'Augustin et Julienne' house is located in one of the former farmhouses of the Château du Tirondet estate. On the first floor, there's a spacious living room with dining area and an adjacent fully-equipped open kitchen. An old passageway gives access to the former milk cellar, where the shower room and toilet are now located. On the second floor, there are three spacious bedrooms, all equipped with good new beds with extra thick mattresses, a wardrobe and a safe. The rooms have a small desk or comfortable sitting area, and one room has an extra armchair that can be folded into an extra bed. This gîte has a private courtyard with a terrace, comfortable furniture and a good barbecue. There is no television in this house.

The "Paulette" apartment is located behind the chapel and was once the official residence of the estate's caretaker/cook. The apartment, located on the second floor, has been completely renovated while preserving the old details. The apartment comprises a bathroom, separate toilet, kitchenette with dining area, bedroom and separate living room. If required, the luxurious sofa bed in this living room can be folded out to create a second bedroom. The apartment has a shared terrace adjacent to the château entrance, with comfortable furniture.

Le Moulin des Mouneyroux is unlike any other gîte. If you're looking for silence and a change of scenery, just 5km from several villages (Dontreix, Auzances, Montel de Gelat and Charensat), this is the place for you! The self-catering cottage is totally independent and set in unspoilt surroundings, allowing you to forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life for the duration of your stay. Preserved intimacy and numerous activities in the vicinity: fishing, hiking trails, Vulcania 40 min away. Le Moulin des Mouneyroux will give you access to the Creuse and Puy de Dôme departments. Come and recharge your batteries with family or friends! The ORANGE fiber is operational. Once you've left the road, you'll have to walk some 10 meters along a path before discovering the gîte.

Gîte d'étape/groupe, "Le Télégraphe" can accommodate up to 14 people in 5 rooms. Ideally situated on the hiking/ mountain-biking network, and close to fishing in the pond (1km) or whitewater (5 to 15 km). "Le Télégraphe" is located opposite a multi-service grocery/bar association that welcomes you every morning (except Mondays). Breakfast available from 8:30 am. Friday afternoon opening from 4:00 pm. 10 min by car to Evaux Les Bains, spa, wellness center, casino, swimming pool, cinema, supermarket, doctors, pharmacy, all shops, or to Chambon/Voueize, abbey church, rivers, media library and local shops. Le Télégraphe is a place for sharing and exchanging, with communal areas. When you arrive, a member of the local council will give you a warm welcome and be your guide to help you find your way around

Ideally located between Limoges and Clermont-Ferrand, the Château de Chazelpaud bed and breakfast is an ideal base for visiting numerous tourist and cultural sites. Under the small porch, the portal is original, with colonnettes supporting the voussoirs which fall on a frieze-chapiteau composed of hooks and flower buds. The church was remodeled in the 18th century, as evidenced by the date 1766 engraved on the semi-circular arch at the entrance to the choir. The church is dedicated to Sainte Madeleine. The central panel is adorned with a painting by François II Finet, an Aubusson painter from 1751. It depicts Ste-Madeleine pénitente and the conversion of St-Paul on the road to Damascus. The side bays of the altarpiece, topped by a triangular pediment, are decorated with 16 panels on 3 levels.

Filature Fonty, «Filature de Rougnat» is one of the last woolen mills still operating in France. It was established and has been working since 1880 in Rougnat on the banks of the Cher. The mill specializes in high-end natural wool yarns. It combines in a single manufacture a wool yarn spinning mill and a dyeing workshop, two traditional know-hows that have almost disappeared from Europe.The shop is open every Wednesday from 1:30 to 5:00 PM, and exceptionally in July on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 5:00 PM.

War memorials are witnesses to history. Erected in tribute to those who died for France, they are an integral part of the landscape. Objects of remembrance, they began to multiply in the late 1920s. Indeed, in 1919, a tribute law voted to allocate subsidies to communes to "glorify the heroes who died for the Fatherland" In Rougnat, the war memorial was inaugurated on February 13, 1921. The poilu?s sepulture surmounting the aedicula is the work of Eugène-Paul Benet (1863-1942) and was produced by Établissements Métallurgiques A. Durenne foundry in Paris. Entitled "Poilu victorieux" (Victorious Poilu), this sculpture can be found in many French communes.

An exceptional setting... Beyond its medieval architecture and its bell-tower-porch rebuilt in the 20th century, the building boasts some of the most beautiful baroque furnishings in the Limousin region: a set of 22 18th-century paintings, more than half of which are the work of the Italian painter J. Lombardi, painted around 1750 and restored by the School of Fine Arts. This Romanesque and ogival style church has beautiful woodwork. The altar, tabernacle and extremely beautiful Assumption in gilded and silvered wood contribute to the richness of this monument.

An emblematic heritage of the Limousin and Creuse regions, good fountains are places of worship and veneration, their waters believed to possess various curative virtues. From the Middle Ages onwards, in view of their widespread success, the church had no choice but to Christianize them, sometimes associating them with a cross or a chapel, but above all by naming them after a saint. In Bussière-Nouvelle, on the day of the Nativity of St. John (the patron saint of the former parish of Blavepeyre), a procession made its way to the fountain of St. John the Baptist in Blavepeyre to offer prayers for the protection of the village.
