A rich environment on the Leyre delta, the Domaine de Certes lies on one of the most important migration routes for avifauna, and is an internationally important migration site for many bird species, including the Eurasian spoonbill. Formerly a salt marsh, this vast area reclaimed from the sea has been converted into a fish farming site, and is now dedicated to the protection of natural environments. This 12.3 km circuit starts at the Château de Certes parking lot and leads to the Lanton bathing basin. Guided naturalist tours are offered by the Conseil Départemental de la Gironde.

Owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral and managed by the Departmental Council of the Gironde, the Domaine de Graveyron is a protected sensitive natural area located in the continuity of the coastal path that borders the Bay of Arcachon. A fish reservoir in the 19th century, it is now home to a large number of bird species that mingle with a green flora. Departures are mainly from the port of Audenge for a loop of about 5 km. The commune of Lanton is made up of several villages which are called : Lanton, Cassy, Taussat and Blagon. A former seaside resort, Taussat-les-Bains is home to magnificent buildings that are called "Les belles de Taussat". Home of some celebrities who came there to recharge their batteries on the Bassin d'Arcachon, they contain many secrets. Go and meet them, they will tell you their story!

The Bétey port, entirely dedicated to oyster farming, was built in 1932 on the mouth river of the same name. In 1982, it was developed to become the sailing harbour of Andernos-les-Bains and is now home to 151 boats. On its left you have the Bétey beach, near a wooded parc (Bétey Dune) and a children's playground. The Bétey rises in the town of Querquillas and flows into the sailing harbour. The river has its name from the Gascon "woodcock net" and divides the city in two. It has only been crossed by a wooden bridge in 1839. In winter near the cemetery, you will find a "rusty" spring, where traces of a prehistoric settlement were discovered. Walk along the banks to discover an amazing fauna and flora : royal fern, the european pond turtle and many others...

Although human activity on this territory dates back to prehistoric times, it was not until 1770 that man began to transform the landscape by developing the salt meadows into salt pans and fish ponds. It's this landscape, where nature is designed, exploited and maintained by man, that you're about to discover.

The little Amazon will reveal its secrets to those who know how to listen and observe. An unspoilt, protected territory, man has nevertheless left his mark on the delta formed by the Leyre, with its locks and salt meadows. Beneath the gallery forest, enjoy the peace and quiet. Keep your eyes peeled for fauna and flora. Can you see the damselflies twirling? Let yourself be carried away by the trickle of the river and the song of the birds.

Walk on the edge of the basin of Arcachon which goes from the church Saint Eloi to the pier of Andernos les Bains. Beautiful views of the basin. You can also enjoy the magnificent sunsets. Explanatory or tourist panels, interest in the natural environment, heritage. The Balades à Roulettes® (BR®) are short, quiet walks, with a pushchair or a small bike, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), proposed by the French Federation of Rambling of the Gironde.

In neo-gothic style, the church of Notre-Dame de Lanton is one of the oldest in the Bay of Arcachon (12th century); its primitive Romanesque chevet is the only apparent vestige that testifies to its origin. The church is located on the coastal road on the way to Santiago de Compostela.

On the Vélodyssée, on a small bike-less break, explore the Domaine de Certes-Graveyron. This 530 hectare property, owned by le Conservatoire du Littoral, is on some former dammed salt marshes. Nowadays, it’s a protected site that lets you discover some remarkable flora and fauna. Château de Certes is a beautiful chartreuse constructed by the Marquis de Civrac, and is currently undergoing restoration work.

The pine forests of the Landes de Gascogne are omnipresent in the three communes of Lanton, Audenge and Biganos: 3000 hectares of forest in Biganos, 1800 hectares in Audenge and more than 11,000 hectares in Lanton, the third most forest-covered commune in France ... The tourist office offers tree tapping demonstrations (harvesting resin) so that you can discover this ancient traditional forest activity.

Along the coastal path, the picnic area of the Suzette beach has several tables with an unobstructed view of the Bay of Arcachon. Public toilets nearby.

The castle of Certes, built in the XVIIIth century, is one of the rare castles of the Basin of Arcachon rebuilt around 1850. It was the castral seat of the old seigniory. It is located on the domain of Certes and Graveyron, a vast 536-hectare dyked domain belonging to the Conservatoire du littoral and managed by the Department of Gironde, within the framework of its policy in favor of Sensitive Natural Spaces. Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. It is currently closed to the public for restoration. Its surroundings are accessible to the walkers of the Domain.

The horizon mirror is a material image. It's an invitation for our eyes to bounce up to the sky. The ancients traced a frame in the air and read the future in the flight of birds within this imaginary temple. Michel Herreria?s invention brings this figure down from the clouds. The material image of the mirror and the formal image slide one over the other, one into the other the other. Here we are, trying to grasp this uncertain geometry and all its enchantments. It's a machine for daydreams and illusions, literally perforating the restful image of the place and creating uncertainty in the perception of this beautiful arrangement. A disturbance that revives what we no longer know how to see, and makes tangible what we don't see.

The “Domaine de Certes” in Audenge is the property of the Conservatoire du Littoral, and is a migratory site of major international importance for many species of birds, including the white spoonbill. This ancient salt marsh is now devoted to protection of natural milieus.
