A trail that is mostly in forest, shaded in summer, with many cultural and natural attractions. Distance: 11km, duration approx. 3.5 hours Marking: Red ring Different departures: MORIVILLE Salle de la Louvière or PORTIEUX Verrerie This hiking trail takes you to La Louvière and its path in the Forêt Communale, composed mostly of hundred-year-old pedunculate oaks. At the curve in the path, two Siamese hornbeams invite you to visit the old Charmes-Rambervillers railway line, which was put into service in 1871 and disused in 1943. The platform of the traveller's halt and its period lime trees are the only witnesses of that time. The cavities in the Scots pine forest in the Hichère ravines remind us of an old plaster quarry and in the hillock, a shooting range lined with badger burrows. Rancerot and its stream, partly supplied by the Fontaine Ferrée, its wild boar park (private) and the communal Arboretum with its many species. At the top of the Tranchée du Torlot, the crossing of the magnificent beech forest leads us to the foot of a Cormier (remarkable tree). Below, the reed bed of the Hemmerey stream, filled with irises, and higher up, a young oak-hemlock forest coming from natural regeneration. Leaving the communal forest, stop at the Portieux glassworks on the hillside and its three centuries of history

Marking: green triangle 17km Discover an exceptional heritage and charming landscapes! The 17km route leads to the Bouzey reservoir which supplies the highest point of the Canal de l'Est. It is therefore a slightly uphill trail, often shaded and without any real difficulty. You will have to cross a few roads on safe, green marked crossings.

Épinal marks a transition in your cycling journey on the Voie Bleue: you will follow a wild part of the itinerary where the greenway along the Canal des Vosges will be your guiding thread. After cycling along the Bouzey Lake, the water supply of the Vosges canal, you pedal in a bucolic setting with very beautiful landscpaes that were shaped by the alignment of hundred-year-old ash trees. Before arriving in Bains-les-Bains, take the time to stop at the Manufacture Royale, visible from the greenway. From the port of Epinal, go up the Moselle along the canal towards the canal-bridge, then head for the Bouzey Lake and Bains-les-Bains. The green route is paved and marked out along the canal and its locks, with no difficulty. The route is marked with a red disc in both directions. At the start, follow the markings common to all the routes: red triangle, then after crossing the town, follow the red disc. After a gradual slope on the road and then through the fields (lookout point for observing the fauna) to the Bourguignotte recreation area (shelter, drinking water and children's playground), this hike continues into the undergrowth on a footpath. After the hamlet of Raval, discovery of the Fontaine aux chèvres in a beautiful beech forest, then crossing the hamlet of Fontenelles, the way back goes through the beautiful forest paths to the Fouillies wood.

Marking: green disc 15.3km Starting from the Bouzey dyke, this route will take you on a wide 14 km loop around Chaumousey. The trail is very varied, between the undergrowth and the banks of the Bouzey Lake.

In the land of Nacer and Rayane Bouhanni, this central tour of 62 kilometres winds through the hills between the Madon and the Moselle to the west of Epinal. Starting from the Maison du Vélo at the lake of Bouzey, you will ride over five bumps and accumulate 740 meters of positive elevation gain. To get in shape, ride along the Vosges Canal on the departmental road D460 in the direction of Chaumousey, then Girancourt. In Girancourt, take the D39, a hilly road that takes you to the gates of Dompaire, passing under Virine via the Côte de Circourt and the Côte de Derbamont (>7%). You will enjoy the long sheltered passages under the oak and beech trees. Pay attention to the markings from the entrance to Lamerey to the Madonne exit (junction with the D166). You arrive at the foot of the third hump above Vautrincourt. This stretch of road, open to all winds, leads you to the famous Côte de Harol (17% gradient), which is well known to cyclists from the Grand-Est. At the top, you will enjoy the 360° panorama. To finish this route, join the Canal des Vosges at the Forges d'Uzemain via Charmois l'Orgueilleux and find, by a small tortuous road, the lake of Bouzey having crossed beforehand the "côte des Salades", the highest point of the course. And that's five!

Marking: green ring A pleasant urban and suburban route through the hills and forests of the Vosges with magnificent views of the city. Exit the car park, turn left onto the marking “o” through the rue des Soupirs for 50 m, then go up the stairs on the left and turn right a little further on into the Chemin des Gardes. At the top of the stairs, you will arrive to a path that offers a beautiful panoramic view of the town and leads you to Rue des Corvées. Go up to the left for 30 m, then turn right onto the Mont Carmel path. Cross the wood to go down rue des Soupirs towards the Quarante Semaine. Follow the markings “o” to get to the Guéry fountain after walking under a sandstone bridge with an old railway line that served the fortified belt of Épinal. From the fountain, turn right onto the path that winds along the foot of overhanging rocks. Go up the hillside to reach a ridge near a platform with a 100 m high antenna. Continue on the left to get near a stele built in memory of resistance fighters shot in 1944. Then walk for a long time through a varied forest composed of beeches, oaks, firs, spruces and Scots pines, and keep following the “o” markers. When you leave the forest, after the farm, you will find the cross of the Pestiférés on the left, 115 m away from the trail. Take the path through the fields. Near an old farm, turn left onto a road and then right onto the path which takes you back to the starting point via the viewpoint, the rue de la Pelle and the ruelle du Coteau.

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

90 minutes to discover the most important medieval fortress in Lorraine. Come and discover the five centuries of history of the fortification. Follow the guide and explore the ditches, the underground network of galleries and the rooms of the fortified area! The fortress is opened to visitors all year. The meeting point is the Guyot d'Avilley Cultural Centre, located in the former Notre-Dame convent. The guided tour begins at the museum and continues with a visit to the remains, which cover more than 55,000 m2. A tourist and cultural programme, for all audiences, is offered to visitors from March to November (exhibitions, restoration work camps for young people, shows and introductory courses in heritage professions). Every two years, the event Les Médiévales attracts a large number of visitors, much to the delight of young and old alike, where knights, birds of prey and acrobats meet (next edition on 22 and 23 May 2021). Go back in time and find yourself at the end of the 19th century! By the light of oil lamps, discover the original architecture of the Seré de Rivières forts before modernisation. This is an you can enjoy during the exceptional opening of the Bois l'Abbé fort to the public on the 14th of July and during Heritage Days. The Bois l'Abbé fort is located a little over a kilometre east of the Uxegney fort. Built between 1884 and 1885, its role was to supplement the action of the Uxegney fort in areas out of sight of the latter. It remained intact after two world wars and, unlike the Uxegney fort, has not since then been modernised or reinforced, apart from four tanks for anti-aircraft artillery, and has retained its original masonry appearance. During your tour you will see the locations of the cannons in the open on top of the fort. Inside, you can admire the colourful sandstone masonry of the gun ports that defended the ditches, the superb staircases leading to the artillery areas, the impressive gunpowder magazine with a capacity of 30 tons of explosives, as well as the bakery whose bread ovens supplied the nearby forts of Bois l'Abbé, Uxegney and La Grande Haye. This tour by lantern light will give you the impression of having travelled back in time!

Visit the fort of Uxegney, an exceptional proof of the efficient defensive system of France in 1914. Contemporary with the forts of Verdun, but avoided by the ravages of battle, the fort is representative of the evolution of fortification in the 19th century, from masonry to concrete with artillery under turrets. Built in 1884, the Uxegney fort was an important part of the Place d'Epinal. It served as a point of reference for the fortified system set up by General Séré de Rivières after the 1870 war. This structure, which has been restored by the volunteers of the ARFUPE association, is listed in the supplementary inventory of “Monuments historiques” due to its exceptional state of conservation. Built in masonry and then reinforced in concrete, it remains one of the very rare examples of forts modernised before 1914 that have remained intact. In the maze of underground galleries, you can discover a large number of restored elements (artillery turrets, cannons in situation, barracks, kitchen, electric factory, etc.), as well as the only working example of a Galopin eclipse turret for a 155mm cannon, a gigantic 250-ton mechanism. The Uxegney fort is connected to the Bois l'Abbé fort, located a little more than a kilometre to the east, by a section of the old military railway rebuilt by the association. Payment by credit card possible. Masks will be mandatory for visitors. Sanitary conditions will be those in force on the day of the visit.

Museum of Military Art of Vincey, place of memory in Lorraine, from 1914 to the Algerian War Nearly a hundred mannequins in situation, cannons and vehicles in working order, a reconstruction of a trench and thousands of objects and souvenirs of the wars of the 20th century. You will be amazed by the quantity and quality of the exhibits! Take a trip back into the past and immerse yourself in military history for a tour. The Vincey Museum is partly in the red brick buildings of the Boussac spinning mills –the former flagship of the textile industry, and the site of the Battle of the Trouée de Charmes in August 1914. The museum is symbolic because it displays the memorabilia and uniforms of General de Castelnau, winner of the battle who was nicknamed the saviour of Nancy for having stopped the Germans at the entrance of the city of the Dukes of Lorraine. On more than 1500m² and two levels, the museum constitutes a true rich and varied retrospective of the most outstanding wars from 1914 to the Gulf War, including the Second World War, Indochina and the Algerian War. You will discover a wide range of equipment: vehicles, weapons, clothing, posters... a very instructive journey through time, with the duty of remembrance to which the Museum's guides and volunteers are committed. A pleasant and entertaining visit given by specialists who talk about history through objects, images and sounds, to reflect and learn more about the functioning of weapons and their usefulness on the battlefield. The Harbour of Epinal is located between the Moselle and the Canal, 5 minutes away from the city centre. With 32 mooring points with water and electricity terminals in service, it welcomes many pleasure boats every year. There, you will find La Capitainerie, which was built by the city, where you can rent electric boats. Just next door, the Maison du vélo will be able to provide you with information on rentals and bike rides, with or without electric assistance. The park has been converted into an amusement park and has several playgrounds for children as well as a cycle path. It can also accommodate camper vans, with a reception area of 5 places equipped with water and electricity terminals in service limited to 48 hours. - Moorings/spots for pleasure boats will be free of charge until the implementation of the CAE co-operative public company (during June 2021). - A standard amperage of at least 16 amps is available - Instructions for the use of the water/electricity terminals will be issued by the CAE on Monday the 17th of May 2021 (the terminals are already in service). Attention: Due to the very low flow of the Moselle, VNF will have to close the access to the port of Epinal from Thursday the 26th of July 2018 at 10:00. A decision will be taken next week with the prefecture.

600 m² of exhibition space, conferences, workshops, meetings, a programme for young people... But above all a unique collection where popular imagery meets contemporary art. A cultural and tourist site of unsuspected richness to be discovered or rediscovered without further delay! Push open the doors of the Musée de l'Image and you will be surprised by the abundance and diversity of its collections. Since its creation in 2003, the Museum has housed one of the largest collections of popular printed images in France and abroad: a collection of more than 110,000 images which constitutes a window on the fascinating world of old and contemporary images and their creators and offers an original look at our society. By confronting popular images with other works –contemporary photographs, paintings, but also musical, literary and theatrical works, the Museum gave itself the goal of questioning the connections –humorous, sentimental, sometimes improbable, that exist between the images of yesterday and today. The works on display are presented with explanatory texts for everyone's understanding. The permanent exhibition is designed as an open book that will make you want to turn the pages and look at the images. By offering inventive and varied exhibitions throughout the year, the Musée de l'Image has become not only a reference point for popular imagery but also for the way in which these historical collections can be questioned and understood. For conservation reasons, the images on display are regularly changed, allowing visitors to discover new works each time they visit!

Admire this 3,000 m² rose garden on the banks of the Moselle. In the typical French formal style, it is made up of around 1,700 roses of 550 different varieties. This rose garden is also adjacent to the Roman house: a curiosity from the late 19th century in Epinal.

The Roman House is the replica of a villa uncovered in Pompeii and is located on the banks of the Moselle. Because I love Epinal so much (they kindly adopted me!), I especially like to stroll, from May onwards, around this restful place and through the scented alleys of its magnificent rose garden. In Epinal, green spaces are an imporant part of the city! The rose garden, in the French formal style, charms me with its 500 varieties of roses carefully tended by the city’s gardeners. When I get to the centre of this scented and colourful park, I go back in time to 1892, when Mrs Morel Leclerc, heiress of a flour mill transformed into a pasta factory, decided to build the Villa. The architect Boussard, aware of the Vosges climate, which was a little cooler than the Italian one, made a few adaptations such as the chimneys in the corners to ensure underfloor heating. He also created an entrance hall consisting of two covered atriums, each with an impluvium. It is said that Mrs Morel, draped in a toga, gave sumptuous receptions here, served by dwarfs! But the owner, ruined, soon abandoned her antique reveries! The city acquired this unfinished property in 1902 to install its library and finished the construction of the winter garden. This building is now home to the companies of the Pôle Images.

The port of Épinal is between the Moselle River and the canal, 5 minutes away from the city centre. Every year, it welcomes many pleasure boats thanks to its 32 mooring posts, its water fountains and electricity hydrants in service. There, you will find the Capitainerie, which was built by the city, where you can rent electric boats. Right next to it, the Maison du vélo can help you for bike renting and cycle routes, with normal or electric bikes. The port was converted into an amusement park and offers several play areas for children and a cycle path. It can also welcome camper vans, with an area of 5 equipped spots with water fountains and electricity hydrants in limited service (48h).
