Thanks to the discovery booklet "Louise and Plumette", specially designed for children aged 3 to 5, discover the bastide and the medieval town of Pellegrue as a family, in the form of little games. The departure is from the Tourist Office of Pellegrue. You can pick up your free booklet at the Tourist Office or download it from our website. At the end of the tour, come back with the answers to the Tourist Office: a small surprise will be given to the children.

In the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region, here you are in the bastide town of Pellegrue founded in the 13th century on a rocky spur. The surrounding countryside has long been a resting place for migrating cranes. So much so that the town's coat of arms depicts a crane sleeping on one leg. During your walk, you will pass through woods and hillsides now planted with vines. Another circuit in the town: Circuit du Pin Franc (7kms).

From the church car park, you will take paths through the woods where you will see some palombières. Then on the heights in the middle of the vineyards, you will have an exceptional view of the valley. There is another hiking trail in the commune: Boucle locale de la Durèze (1,5km - 30 minutes).

As an extension of the Gironde circuits linking Bordeaux to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, this route enters the Pays du Dropt. From Duras, one of the most important places in the history of Aquitaine, you will progressively descend through gentle slopes dotted with vineyards and orchards towards the Garonne valley. The circuit goes through woods, vineyards and rural paths. It also takes part of the Vézelay jacquard road. You will discover a varied landscape along streams and wine castles. To see: the village church built in 1865 in the Romanesque style and characterized by a square bell-tower topped by a conical spire, and the Liret wash-house, outside the village.

Starting from the cooperative cellar, you will cross this small village to gradually reach a forest landscape where you will see some palombières. Then you will go along the vineyards and orchards and meet the hiking trail of the 3 cantons of the commune of Les-Lèves-et-Thoumeyragues.

Saint-Laurent church. 13th and 15th centuries - Limestone. This church and its "thousand-step" annex, the church or chapel of Saint-Martin-de-Servolet, was once a parish belonging to the diocese of Bazas, along with those of Genas, Vignolles and La Reyre. Close to the Vézelay route from Saint-Quentin-de-Caplong to Pellegrue, the church is sometimes a refuge for Compostelle pilgrims. The Gothic walls of the nave have lost their stained-glass windows and the building has fallen into disrepair. The roof, however, has been restored by the municipality.

This fortified house has a large round tower on the north-east side with numerous rectangular or circular fire hydrant openings, which are strongly splayed inside the tower. It has all the characteristics of a 16th century construction. To the west of the round tower, a square pavilion with a high roof from the 16th or early 17th century. A beautiful building of historical character, Judes deserves to escape collapse. Not to be visited.

Hall - 1909 to 1913. Architect: Bontemps. Builders: Frères Boyer. Castillon limestone, steel, iron and cast iron. Since the bastide was founded in the 13th century, 2 or 3 wooden covered market halls have followed one another. In 1776, following a decision by the municipality, the covered market was demolished and replaced by a new building, still made of wood. In 1902, the municipality had the 18th-century hall demolished, and the current building, inspired by the work of Gustave Eiffel and the Monségur hall, was not begun until 1909. Work was completed in 1913. With the building in a state of disrepair, the municipality asked residents in 1979 to vote in a referendum on whether to demolish or restore it. The latter was approved by 419 votes to 183. It took two years to rebuild the hall.

Town Hall - 17th century, 1707, 1773 and 19th century. Asteriated limestone. The town hall, with its belfry, is not one of the oldest buildings in the village. The town hall, built on former notables' houses, has preserved traces of a 15th-century sink, Renaissance openings and medieval reuse. The building, erected on the rampart and located on the market square, plays both a strategic and economic role. The belfry was erected in 1773 by stone mason Sieur Audebert, and covered with slate. Its bell was cast the same year by Maître Poulange, a foundryman in Bordeaux. In the 19th century, the building housed the gendarmerie. Dr Fontes (1867-1924) donated his house to the municipality, which first set up the gendarmerie and then the post office.

Built on a Gallo-Roman site, this bastide town was founded by Henry III of England in 1280. St André Church dating back to the 12th century and old houses, including two fortified buildings, are still visible. The Hall, inspired by Gustave Eiffel’s work, was built at the turn of the 20th century on the site of an old hall from 1560.

Its plan is in the shape of a pentagon, four sides of which are lined with buildings enveloping a courtyard of the same shape; the fifth is closed by a crenellated wall. A round tower in the middle of the main southern facade, two other round towers to the east and west, a turret at the south-west corner, a watchtower on the cul-de-lampe at the south-east corner, and high-roofed roofs give this building an impressive and very picturesque appearance.

Longère - 17th and 19th centuries. Stone. This longère, with its staircase and stoop, was used for farming, crafts and trading. Restored several times, it once housed an inn where pilgrims would stop off after their ablutions at the fountain outside the bastide walls. Here, "le sieur Papin gran manjur de bouilli (boeuf en pot-au-feu), albergiste de la chartrouse" welcomed the Jacquets.

Wash-house - 17th and 19th centuries. Stone. According to tradition, water swirls around Le Touran on all sides. Several springs, ponds, pools and fountains exist or have existed in this area. Pilgrims on their way to Vézelay, arriving on this side of the village, would refresh themselves and wash their feet here before entering the bastide or going to the priory. In the 19th century, and probably earlier, drinking troughs were built for horses and oxen. Upstream, a fountain was built exclusively for drinking water. Opposite, the farmhouse had its own cattle pond and well. Below, another spring emerges from the rock and feeds the surrounding covered washhouse. A meeting place, the women of the village would come here on set days to meet up with their friends.

This Romanesque church was linked to the castral village before the foundation of the bastide. It has a barrel-vaulted choir, a semicircular apse with a barrel vault, a transept with broken barrel vaults and a dome on pendentives. The portal, with four arches, is probably later (13th century). In 1895/1896, to the north, the present side tower-belfry, topped by an oblong dome flanked at its base by belfries, was built by the architect Valleton. Keys on request from the town hall.
