This former merchant house from the 13th century was used as an indoor fair during the fairs of Champagne, and then as a warehouse for the tithe from the 14th century onwards. This renewed church is created in a Roman style by a canon Soulavie. In the XVIIIth century the polygonal awning, woodwork and iron choir fence were constructedin the XVIIth century. Its wood pieta and the Pentecost board are from the XVIIth century and the canvas of the martyr St Laurent from 1670.

From the XIIth century, restaured in the XIII and XIVth century. The construction of the steeple is incomplete. You will find Maricourt’s family’s gravestone from the end of the XVIIIth century.

From the XI to the XIIth century, La Ferté-Gaucher was headed by the priests of Saint-Jean-des-vignes-de-Soissons Abey The prior applied the construction of a priory barn “aux Dîmes”.

Housewives thought that the washing place basic and open air applied for a roof to avoid bad weather.

It was constructed in February, 1886, thanks to the citizens ‘application. “…it would be a very useful purpose for the citizens the wash house  to be indoor and not to be expensive…”

At the end of the XVIIIth century, the region was known by its quality of wheat ground, hay and pastureland. La Ferté-Gaucher played an important role in the animal trade indeed the Halle (covered market) was built for it.

Its pièce de resistance is undoubtedly the plant cathedral, an ambitious project carried out over 6 years and inaugurated in June 2017.
